Thanks Alex.......I want better sound but not sure if I want to change out my amp yet.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I would check the wiring and see what everything looks like first. As for the remote wire, if you use the same one i did it shouldn't matter what sound system you have, as long as there is a power outlet in the armrest.

How does it sound; can you feel the punch; cause im thinking of building a box and adding a 10" sub and amp, it'll take too much space though.
BMW should have left us with the spare tire hole.

I have a plastic frame that came with my SWS-8. Is that used in the installation?

I noticed that the author of this DIY chose not to reinstall the speaker grates becuase there are some issues with fit, which require spacers to ensure no interference.

What are some thoughts on this? I think it is a good thing for avoiding rattles or interference from the grate, but what about the potential for larger dirt/debris contacting the speaker.

Is this really something to worry about or is it considered no problem becuase it is back away from the part of the carpet that feet and debris contact?

Seat reinstallation info.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Searched forever for this, and nothing but typical snide remarks. Hope this helps someone.
Must replace seat bolts when replacing seats in car, part number 07 14 7 146 686. Apparently bolts are coated for ?corrosion protection and safety.

See this link: http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/08/07/70

Seat bolt torque is 35Nm.
***"Carpet must not get between seat rails and floor pan in area of fastening points (grating noises). "

Hope this helps someone else.

Adobe tells me your pdf is damaged and cannot be repaired.

Would you be able to report the pdf instruction/installation file?

Thx!

No problems here. It's your machine. It's not small: 12 MB, so maybe that's why. Save As, instead of clicking link to view it in browser.

Talking Thank you very much

I have been looking into getting two 10 in. subs for my 335i and placing them in the trunk. I initially wanted to find out about the stock subs and upgrading them. Your PDF just helped me decide on what I want to do before spending more money yet.. The installation instructions are clear. Your response to 335 Trojan about your sound improvement also provided some great information and the opinion on quality was what I have been trying to find out. Thanks again for the post. I'll try these subs now.

What a great write-up, clear and concise...lots of great pictures. Great note on the importance of moving that fuse a lot closer to the battery.

I look forward to doing this to my e90 very soon.

Back from the dead!

Going to try this without an aftermarket amp on the Logic7 system.

Are the Technic brackets necessary? I will pick up the wiring harness from Bavarian Auto I think. What else is needed?

Some questions

Thought I would resurrect this excellent thread.

I notices that you took the feed to the new amp from the rear speakers. Are the rears speakers fed a full signal as I am sure I head that the only get a signal from 50HTz up over. This may be different on the F10 that I have.

Also, if sticking with replacing the subs only and not the amp do I get 2ohm or 4ohm speakers

These instructions should only be used for a pre-LCI e90. The newer ones do horrible things to the rear channels. If you want to do something to an LCI 3er or a new F series I would contact http://www.musicarnw.com/ Ken has an incredible wealth of knowledge he will drop on you.

Ah I see, however I am based in UK. But I believe the feed to the under floor seats are full range so could use that

Great writeup, thanks!
I would like to do this upgrade to my 2008 E93 which has (pfft) the base stereo system with pro nav.

Will I be able to just replace the poor 6.5inch subs without adding an amp for an imrpvement in bass power and depth?

If I need an amp then would need a certain size to fit under the boot carpet? I can see I already have some sort of module under the carpet of the boot towards the rear seats, and theres space to the left possibly for an amp.
