Hey guys, new to this forum but love it so far. Wondering if anyone can help me out here. Just picked up a 2008 335XI sedan, has catless downpipes but a stock tune, not good from what I understand.

I NEED CATTED STOCK DOWNPIPES to pass a CT emissions test ASAP!
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU'VE GOT SOME!

Also what are the major worries when running catless with no tune? I know running lean is likely which could cause piston/ring damage. Car does stutter at idle which I believe is caused by this.

Should I not drive the car at all or would I be okay until I get the stock downpipes?

Get a "DP fix" search google. They run about $80 and are simple to install. They will alow your vehicle pass with ctlss dnpipes by tricking the system. Also you should look into a MHD Tune for your car search the Google Play store. Very inexpensive and user friendly. Will add close to 100 hp. Your car should have no issues running ctless without a tune.

I passed RI inspection with catless + MHD

Car will run fine with downpipes & no tune, the downpipes are actually great for the longevity of the turbos. Regarding the rough idle, the likely culprit would be carbon buildup. How many miles are on the car?

I am not going to splice wires on the ECU for the DP fix and a tune will not get it passed emissions, a tune only gets rid of the SES light but does not give the emissions sensors the ready signals they need to pass.

Still looking to buy stock downpipes off of someone!

Debating cutting and welding in universal cats to get past emissions. Anybody have experience or knowledge on this?

You don't need to splice wires for the dp fix, you replace the wires in the harness. Takes about 20min to do if you've done it a bunch of times. I do it for every inspection. If I were you I would do the dp fix, as getting the downpipes is usually expensive since you have to drop the subframe to get to them, much rather pay $70 then pay 400-500 to get them replaced. Also there isn't enough space to use the universal cats.
