Alpina B3S are around €30k and also mostly xdrive but all automatics (surprised the xdrive can handle 400PS but it also explains why they're only available in auto). As I'm getting older/ lazier and the prices of petrol I'm thinking F31 328 or 330i LCI (its a 4pot turbo).

Still I'd miss these E90's they're just sooo good to drive compared to the the F30's.
yeh,,ik find my e46 is a better car to drive than my e90..same engine..feeels more nimble and tighter..wonder of the e3x cars felt better than the e46 cars and so on.i never owned an e3x car so i wouldnt know.

Only drove an old E46, which was OK. Yep, that what most people say, the older ones drive better. Even if the E90 shell is more rigid, I bet its a lot heavier than the E46. I think my E91 weighs in at around 1850 kg! (50kg over the saloon, about 100 kg for xdrive? Glass sunroof...).

Petrol RWD E46 touring in manual might be the way to go. Fairly bombproof too I would have thought with that engine.

I will most likely get a 340i f31 when the price drop a bit more
I would love to upgrade my e91 to a 340i.... but I have a feeling that I’m going to be waiting a very long time for those prices to come down 😞.

I can’t find an alternative to a 340i/335i either because I want to stay with a 6 pot petrol.

Just glad I’ve got a good e91 until that day comes.

I also wouldn't want a 4 pot & I suspect I'll wait another year or so. My e92 is at the point now where the value has pretty much bottomed out so I can live with it getting a bit grungy due to the dog, although I do cover up the rear seat.

F31 335i have come down to around £20,000 now, still don't think I'd wanna pay that kinda money to have it messed up by the little puppy & I know if I bought a 335i I'd regret not getting the 340i which are still around 25k+ & if I bought a 340i it wouldn't be as quick as my 370+ bhp 335i so then I'd be spending more money on it maybes I should post up some pics of the puppy on a crowd funding page to fund a 340i to take him out in

Great idea guys! We did start a "doggy in E91" page somewhere on this forum, I think its on the E91 appreciation thread. I rekon for fitting in an German Shepard into the an E92 you get automatic right of way!

I still haven't figured a way to put a picture up and replace Photobastardbucket. Any ideas?

I've a late e90 so don't have some of the gripes people are complaining about. But lack of temp gauge is annoying. And the previous owner didn't upgrade the base audio

But i've a dipstick, individual wood trim, hdd CIC, etc

The lack of a temp gauge is also one of the gripes I have, I was going to fit an M3 cluster in the hopes of getting the temp gauge but apparently that only works on the M57 engine, not the N57...

Got around it for now as I have an Android head unit with Torque and Carly that shows various readouts...

Just bear in mind that E46s are of that age that tin worm is starting to show (in the UK at least). Seen several with front wings peppered with rust bubbles...

I'm thinking we'll soon be out of proper cars to buy 2nd hand and drive

Next will be a full fat Pajero (sorry I meant Shogun ) thats if they don't ban diesels...

Re: Original post. Why on earth do BMW insist through every generation of their cars putting absolutely abismal stereo systems as standard!? I mean its just frigging embarrassing, even my ex-work supplied Golf (6 & 7) 2l and 1.6l 4 pot oil burner business trim had a far better hifi. WTF Beemer!!!

In no particular order:

Rubbish stereo unless upgraded.
4 pot diesel - not exactly going to set the tyres alight.
Originally low spec - until I retrofitted the crap out of it!

Yes on mine the base audio is absolutely awful. Useless system. Ruins music.
If I could just pay someone to upgrade it I would but if it's around £600 to £1000 then other things take priority.

Apart from that most things are brilliant. Supercar performance for relatively little money.

The other thing that disappoints me is it made me realise we need an unrestricted autobahn.
