New owner of 2013 328ix and bumped into a metal garbage bin. Options/costs?

EDIT: Not allowed to embed an image apparently but here's a link

Was hoping to figure out how much it would likely cost to just get the dent fixed as well as reasonably possible without replacing the whole trunk. I'd be ok with slight blemishes.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You won't know until to take it to an auto body repair shop if know a reputable place or someone that knows of one.

it looks like you could pop that dent out yourself , the location of the dent should be pretty easy to access, I have seen people using straight bars to pop dents. There are different techniques , depending on the dent, I would even suggest to watch a few tutorials on youtube on popping dents.

The harder ones to pop are the ones you can not access from behind but that is not your case ( unless there is some type of panel behind there the will not allow you to access from behind)

the paint may be a whole different story though. Its hard to tell how deep the scratches are , not sure if you can polish it up or if it does need to be repainted. There is always the option of touch up paint , wet sanding. It requires a lot of patients and sometimes more than a day , there are also a lot of tutorials on youtube. It wont be perfect but you can get it to look pretty good to the average joe

Another option is touch up paint and a rear spoiler. The CSL spoiler would probably cover most of the damage

If you were to take it to a bodyshop , they should be able to pop that no problem and repaint. As per the cost , I m assuming roughly 1 k . To repaint a hood is around 500-600 bucks ( trunk should be around the same , and 4 hours to pop that and fill the scratches

For anyone else finding this post, I shopped around a bit, got a $812 quote from a random body shop, and a $600-ish quote from German Auto Group http://www.germanautogroupva.com/ which I've dealt with satisfactorily before.

$800 sounds extreme! $600 sounds extreme! You can literally buy a used junk yard trunk lid (or check eBay) and install it yourself for $100 to $250! Your car is black and that is popular color which means you can find a matching trunk lid in minutes! Even buying a primed lid and painting would be $500!

For example I paid $200 at the BMW Dealership to get the dent guy to remove this dent:

They charge something like $250 a panel regardless of how many dents or how big the dent is on the panel. BMW warranties their work as well (I believe) since it is all done at the BMW dealership.

your picture below shows a similar dent with minor paint work needed! Only complication is your dent is on the crease! ewe
