I have been experiencing some engine misfires for a while in my e90. My regular garage changed nox sensor and all spark plugs and coils and the issue still wasn't fixed. I also tried cleaning the Vanos solenoids by myself. Nothing fixed the issue. The car still experienced rough idling and fluctuating revs while in neutral.
Yesterday the car threw the engine malfunction error and said the engine is running on limited power and I can still drive.
Since the non BMW specialists were not able to track down the problem I decided to take it to the BMW dealership even though they will probably overcharge.
However they scheduled the investigation for 2 weeks from now. I will not drive the car for work but I was wondering if it is safe to still drive it a little just for some errands like to the supermarket and back and on other business inside the city (driving at 30mph) and never more than 4-5 miles at a time.

Personally, I would say that is near impossible to answer seeing as we've no idea whats wrong with your car. If at all possible, I would literally not drive it at all until you have take it to BMW. It might be fine but, you might end up causing more damage. Just because it does drive, doesn't mean you should!!

Is the eml light yellow? If so chances are if you turn the car off when reduced power light comes on & restart the eml light usually goes away & the car will be ok to drive. Just drive it moderately. You can always get carly or one of the other code reading apps, plenty of info about them if you do a search. Once you have the codes just post them up there are plenty of clued up people here that'll tell you what the codes mean. If you've done plugs & coils could be injectors but firstly make sure the coils are seated correctly.
