We need to find out how many stock cars are failing.. a thread with 10 cases doesn't say much about the " reliability" of the N55 motor

I knew about it burring oil stock. this was my first DI car with FI and listened to the dealer when the told me it was normal. I then had a custom MHD tune flashed in . The oil consumption stayed about the same, It stated to concern me when the tips had oil on the them

Muffler tips, I'd clean them in two days later they'd be covered

The master tech at my dealership who always works on my car mentioned throwing a N63 TT V8 motor into it. Apparently BMW has to replace so many of these damn things that the price sunk a crazy amount. A new crate N63 costs less than 3k without turbos. For comparison, customer price for a new N55 is 13-14k without a turbo.

There is a reason they replace so many N63's and why you most definitely want a N63TU over it. That would be a pretty cool swap.

Considering how much a FBO N55 struggled for traction, a V8 with more torque would be silly. That being said, if this wasn't my daily I would probably consider it.

I don't see the issue I daily drove my Cadillac CTS-V with 305 width drag radials.
