Tint tickets in ny?
Recently got pulled over, cop informed me it's illegal to drive in NY if tints are blocking over 30% lights. Per their measurement, mine was blocking 90% and gave me two tickets - one for front and one for rear tints (~$200 in fine)
![]() Now my question is - if I remove tints and show it as proof that I have corrected it - can charges be withdrawn? Or do I still have to pay? |

Are you a NY registrant? Your location says NJ. If oyou're out of state, the equipment requirement doesn't apply to you and you should definitely get the ticket dismissed. If you're registered in NY, remove the film, plead not guilty and send a letter to the prosecuting jusrisdiction showing the removal invoice and respectfully asking for a dismissal (or a 1201a). The law with regard to tint didn't change, but the inspection law did - the inspection station now must run a tint meter - you wouldn't have been able to get inspected anyway. |

At the end of the day, it's all up to the judge. Tints on the front are not legal but rear tints are legal as long as you have two functional side view mirrors and a functional rear view mirror. Your out of state residency may get your ticket(s) dismissed because of the day to day change of laws in various states.
