Squeeking Shocks/Struts?

2009 328xi, 160k km. Every time I hit a bump the rear of my car squeaks. I'm guessing this is a shock or strut issue? Any ideas on the cause/cost to repair?

Thanks everybody, I'm not exactly a "car guy"!

Thanks, Chris. Any idea how much I should be expecting to spend to get these parts replaced? Thanks again.

Grease your folding rear seat hinges and replace your upper rear shock mounts. When bad, they make chipmunk noises. Metal to metal.

Is the rear seat hinge contributing to the sound?

Open trunk, and push car down/up (push on the plastic where the latch is).

If you hear squeaking it's rear ball joint, #3 on the diagram. If replacing, it would be a good idea to replace #2 bushing as well. As chris@strutmonkey said, it may be worth while replacing front/rear struts/shocks along all of their components if its never been done, including the two bushings I mentioned. I would say you're looking at around $1000 to get all this done if you're source your own parts.

Don't pay for installation over and over for every single worn part...
This might be control arm bushing or ball joint. Don't buy struts/shock, actually don't buy anything until you figure out what is making the squeaking noise. Usually on the rear this is making the squeaking noise: https://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tec...eplacement.htm Like 8 out of 10 this would be the culprit

Agreed. Don’t buy anything until you know. Waste of time and money.
