No Sound, No Screen, No Fun!

Hello,

So I've had this issue before and it kinda just went away. One day my radio was working, now it is not and giving an SOS error. Here's what I have and what I have done.
Car: 2006 BMW 330i
My battery was having issues and finally died(thought this might be the issue), but replaced the battery and used INPA to reset it and still no screen, no sound and SOS error
I have the BMW professional radio WITHOUT idrive, I think it has Logic 7
The lights around the radio are on and I can eject the CD, but the screen is blank and no sound.
I have held the menu button for 20 seconds, pressed the on/off button for 20 seconds and sometimes just a quick click on/off but NOTHING. Pressed the button to switch between aux/cd/radio etc. while playing with the volume, still nothing
I bought one of those MOST loop connectors and tried to bypass the TCU, satellite radio and amp, but nothing changed. One thing I did notice was when I had the connector disconnected from the TCU, amp and satellite radio and the car was on there was no red light and in videos when people were doing some testing it seemed like there was a red light coming from the connector??
I have checked some fuses, but what are the main fuses I should check?
From what I've read, seems to be either the TCU or head unit, I'm thinking head unit because of the no red light?? But not sure, I have not pulled out the head unit yet, but wanted to see if there was a way to tell if the head unit is bad vs. something else being wrong. I read somewhere about pulling the head unit and looking at inside the unit from the side and if there is no led light, then its dead??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Gene

One guy had rodents eat through the fiberoptics near the most hub.

The head unit would be the last thing I would suspect.
The only way you can really verify modules is put them in a working car . but if it won't eject a cd and there is one in it
you may have a point.

There are some LED's on the logic 7 amp that indicate some
stuff read the following. All 330's in 06 in the US came with
Logic 7 standard.

Sorry for the late reply, been out of town. Thank you for the response ctuna, I had seen this video, that's when I got the loop connector and tried to bypass different components. But I'm not seeing light out of the connectors which is shown in the video, that why I was thinking the head unit, because I haven't pulled that at this point.

Is there more than the four components in the MOST bus, the three in the trunk-amp, tcu, and satellite and the head unit?

Is there a reason I don't see the red light in any of the components in the trunk? Something that could point to as the problem?

And, I CAN eject the CD from the player, so the radio seems to have power

I urge you to do a VIN check with one of the free
online bMw vin checkers that will tell you what was installed
on the car out of the factory . No sense in looking at the satellite
module if there never was one.

since it is quite easy to remove radio you can do following
remove radio
release quadlock connector
remove MOST circuit from it
insert quadlock connector back and check , if radio will emit red light
if it is not - then MOST GW in radio dead and you need to replace radio
you can get from ebay some , but you'll to code it to your options - sirius, tcu and amp

Thank you, I will take out the radio tonight, so just to make sure I understand....there is a quadlock connector with the MOST connector attached to it, I remove the quad connector and then the MOST connector from it, plug back in just the quad connector and see if the radio screen appears?

when you plug quadlock back without most you power radio and it should start emit most light from quadlock connector

It might be easier to check for light at the Most access point under
the steering wheel. Since its next to the radio its the closest point.
Its my understanding from the links I put up that every module should
emit light on one of the two most connectors when powered up.
There is also a most Hub behind the US driver side rear passanger seat bolster
where all the most cables come together.

Thanks for the responses, I pulled the radio out and reconnected the quadlock without the most and there was no light coming out the back of the quadlock or the most connector that was disconnected. I also checked the amp and there was no light, is that because the head unit is the main component and if that is broke, ever thing in the ring is broke? Does this mean its definately the head unit??

Is this your original head unit?
If it is I think pt is right its bad . If you changed head units
and did not program the new one it could be the problem.
The Head unit is the gateway or server/ interpreter for all info on the most bus.

(Assuming it was powered up)

Yes, this is the original head unit and it did have power, since I was able to eject a cd and the lights around it were on. I could also hear like a click and surge when I connected the quadlock even before I put the key in. I guess its time to look for a head unit, thanks alot for the help and please add anything else that might help

Quick update, I went to the local auto junk yard and by chance they had a 2006 328i that was just put out a couple of days ago. Went over and the radio was still there! So, I grabbed it and put it in and now the led is lit up with stations and no more SOS, but still don't have sound, I'm assuming thats because it needs to be programmed? Going to look that up next, but any help/links would be greatly appreciated. Also, on the back of the quadlock there looks to be 2 places to put the most connection, but only one locks it in place, I'm assuming thats the correct one??

Show pictures of the back of the Radio .
I would be surprised if it didn't have a most connection
if its from the US. Some of the Euro ones don't.
There has to be two optical connections ones in and one
out on all most bus devices that's why the call it a most loop.
1)Find a coder in your area to code it.
2)Learn to code.
3)bimmertech has remote coding services .
The send you a cable and log into your pc
there is a deposit on the cable and the coding for
a radio used to be around 160.
4)A dealer will likely not do it and charge to much just
to make the attempt.

Go to the coding sub forum here and ask about help or
remote coding.
As far as I know BMW still has not fixed the display problem
in any year.
On the older cars before 07 you could get away with a simple
k/d can cable for coding most bus stuff. I don't know if this apply to a newer unit in and older car.

Not sure if this will be a double post, but I didn't see it post. Here is the picture, but when I pulled it I made sure it had the MOST connection

I have INPA, since I've reset my battery and believe I also loaded ncsexpert. I've been looking at videos and docs, would like to do it myself, so if u guys have any links that would help me code the other radio, that would be great!!

go to the coding subforum here look up coding for the radio.
You can read the 2urad file to see what the radio is set up for.

I believe you can do something called and sgreset for the 2urad file in Ncsexpert
for the radio and it will reload the factory presets that are stored
in the FRM and or Cas.

Some of the above are for idrive you want the ones for pro radio.

Would be the same as this except you want option 677 for logic 7

I would attempt to read the rad file from the new radio first.

Rad file looks like this except the following is for Hi FI no sat
with bluetooth phone.
