Help choosing fuse slots for hardwiring radar detector & dashcam - 2013 E92 335is
Hi all- was hoping someone could help me with a couple questions on hardwiring a dash cam and radar detector in my 2013 E92.
First I have a Passport 9500ix radar detector. For this I have the Escort DirectWire smartcord hardwire kit already. I got some add-a-fuses and wired one to the DirectWire kit as instructed, then grounded & wired into the fuse box. I chose fuse slot 5 since I had seen that one recommended for this hardwire, and this is working fine, it powers on when the car starts up, which is what I want. However I have a dash cam that I also want to hard wire to the fuse box. In this case it came with a 'Power Magic Pro' device, which allows the camera to work in 'park mode'. There are 2 connections, one for 'acc' and one for 'batt'. The 'batt' one intended to be connected to a fuse slot that is always on, while 'acc' is to be plugged into a slot that powers on with the engine. The Power Magic Pro is designed to cut power to the camera once the car battery is drained past a certain level. My question is, does anyone know which ports I should tap into, to connect the dash cam? I can't seem to find much consensus on the forums / elsewhere online on what other fuse slots are available, and/or whether I may need to pull an existing fuse from a slot, and put that into the other slot on the fuse tap, then plug the fuse tap in. I'm hesitant to try random slots so I was hoping someone may know which ports to use? To be honest I don't really care about using park mode. But I tried connecting just the 'acc' wire to fuse slot 5 (before I had connected the radar detector), but the camera wouldn't power on with just that one connected (with or without the car running). So I'm assuming if I'm using the Power Magic Pro, it might require both 'acc' and 'batt' to be connected simultaneously in order to work at all? For reference View post on imgur.com of the fuse box, the map of each fuse and amperage, and the diagram of what fuse does what. If you need any clarification or better photos please let me know. Thanks in advance. |

I have just done this recently using fuses, however I don’t know if you’re still after such information as the post is quite old now, however please see my link for the fuses I used to hard wire my dash cam, which will work for all of accessory’s.
