Anyone driven the f10 535d?
I understand the handling and feel of steering is going to suck compared to the 335d, but I’m curious since I commute 140-160 miles a day and that 535d looks much roomier and comfy. I also have a car seat in the back that I need to consider. The 535d could be a good in-between for the 335d and the x5 35d. Someone in bimmerfest claimed they gutted their SCR and BPC only does a DPF felete ht that’s all I can really find about Stage 2 possibilities. *edit* looks like JE might make one that deletes SCR and they’re planning on making SCR delete pipe?*
It’s hard to find much info on these in the 5 series forum either way. These are a modified n57 for US specs? Last edited by hybridp; 04-22-2018 at 01:38 PM.. |

The N57 is almost identical to EU motors. |

I've not hear or read of any significant trouble spots with the N57 unlike the M57. It looks like BMW fixed most of the problem spots on the M57 in the 535d/X5 35d.
Personally I've seen quite a few people who want diesels trade their 335d's for 535d's. I've driven a 535i, and a 2015 X5 with the N57 diesel. But not both in the same car. The 535d (based on multiple 535i's) is a fine automobile, its quite, rides well, a bit roomier than the e90's, and has passable handling. The 5 series being so long and with not the greatest site lines out is harder to park, and the handling is well competent, but its not a BMW of 'yor more like a somewhat better camery. Yes I've driven both back to back and really they are close. So for commuting its a great car, for enthusiasm, with a gulia being a 10 and a Jeep Compass being a 1, I'd rank the 535d at maybe a 5, a GTI a 7. Not to say its a bad car in any way, its just not the car people buy who enjoy driving a sports car. Its a luxury car 1st, with enough sport to not be embarrassing. Sportiness as a priority is a matter of desires. My wifi's Minicooper S is a better handler than my e90 335d... Last edited by Thecastle; 04-23-2018 at 08:44 AM.. |

I almost traded for one. It was not as quick or as sporty as the 335d but it was no grand marquis either. I too have a long commute and this one had every conceivable option, most importantly a sublime set of seats that allowed for upper-back adjustment. Everything was perfect until I found it was a lemon law buyback. Had it not been for that, I would be driving it now. I haven't checked the links above but hopefully they'll confirm my understanding which is that although it is called a 535 here in the US, it is really the EU 530, which means a single, variable vane turbo, less robust valve springs and the fuel pump mentioned above, all of which make it less desirable to those wanting to do some serious tuning.

I had a 2011 335d sport package and now a standard 535d (LCI, North American 530d rest of the world).
As for the 535d compared to the 335d: Pros: - better acceleration - better fuel economy - more room - better tire wear - newer electronics - steering not as heavy Cons: - not really trackable but I'll try it just to get a feel for the car - feels heavier - feels less lively (although its faster) - LCI electric power steering is better than original f10 but still not as good as e90's hydraulic - bigger means less nimble to park, drive - people think its a Camry or Lexus - it is not - it has the CP4 fuel pump The 535d is a BMW through and through. Current bonehead car culture mandates no body lean or softness whatsoever in suspension set-up. I can tell you my 1966 912, my 1991 318is, and numerous other extremely well handling cars had a supple suspension AND great handling. I get it that on the track the cars that have stiff sport suspensions do better, but that is another topic and a 5-series suspension setup usually is on the softer side anyway. Personal preference. I would not have liked a plain 335d without the sport suspension because of other factors such as seating and cornering, but the tire wear and suspension alignment were very annoying. A 5-er has a proper double A-arm front suspension for such a car. The 2016 535d came standard with 18 inch wheels, sport transmission, and paddle shifters, all an improvement over the original f10 and later 528i base model. PL |

There is another member in our facebook group that has deleted theres and is running 1/4 miles and even some autocross. Honestly you can go wrong when th either of them. The 535d is great crusier and I am enjoying the car but I am ready to do a full exhaust and delete it. |
