Thanks for the recommendation Bro, I will check it out, its time for a BLAST!

Is there any way to check the valves carbon buildup level? I heard you can use borescope but not sure how to do it, are there any videos on how to do it.

Thanks!

3 hours tops.

1 hour to remove everything

10 minutes per cylinder

1 hour to put everything back

Any longer it takes then you are milking it imo.

symptoms & relief

I'm at 145k miles on my 2010 335xi. Have done walnut blasting twice.. once ~50, other ~90.

Both times, it wasn't an overall feeling of 'less power', it was specifically a feeling of a stumble/misfire, when under load. Very specifically, 5th or 6th gear, flooring on a highway when going 70 or so... feels 100% like a misfire, as if it starts to pull and then stumbles a couple times, sort of like small gaps/bumps in the road. Very noticeable.

Not noticeable in lower gears, that I can tell.

Both times, dealership was involved and heavily discounted, won't go into reasons why. They swapped plugs & coils & injectors before doing so, and then did the walnut blast saying that the symptom hadn't gone away until doing that. Not sure if they were milking tech time / work from corporate, or what.

Bottom line, when it went away, the pull wasn't 'stronger', but rather it was simply smoother and didn't feel like a group of misfires under load. To me, there is nothing worse than accelerating and feeling the misfires (or what seems like it).

Hadn't felt the problem for the last 40k miles or so... but now it's back. What would you do -- is this really the classic 'symptom' of needing the blasting, or would you have someone do plugs first?

If doing the blasting and have taken everything apart anyway, what would be a fair price for labor to also do plugs while they're in there?

I mean every 40-50k you need to blast so you are close might as well.

Plug are on the 'other side' of the engine. That being said plugs and coilpacks take all of 30m to do once you are in there. I would blast and get new plugs as plugs are cheap. Or just blast and say F it and wait for a real misfire.

I know thread is old. Figured i would revive. I live in western mass anywhere a little closer that does walnut blasting. The places in the post are all about an hour and a half away. Don't really mind making the drive, but if there is a decent place a little closer that would great.

Thanks everyone
