Wood Watches

So, I've been looking for an inexpensive watch to bum around in, and I'm pretty keen on getting a wood watch. I like the looks, and I recently purchased a few pair of Evoke Bamboo Sunglasses, and a wood watch would go well with them.

That said, I've done some research and there are a handfull of companies offering wood watches. Yet there is little (if any) information in the form of reviews on them. Has anyone actually seen/worn any of these?

We-Wood:

http://we-wood.us/collections/alpha/...ood-alpha-army

I really like the look, but the reviews I found show some pretty shoddy craftsmanship. It's also got a pretty lackluster movement.

JORD:

http://www.woodwatches.com/series/sully#18

These look to be a bit better quality, and even offer a mechanical (though I don't like square watches, so I'd go with the quartz). No real reviews online.

Tense:

http://tensewatch.com/store/compass-...0dg-p-132.html

Like the looks, but it doesn't specify the movement (assuming it's crap) and again, no reviews.

Martin & McArthur:

https://www.martinandmacarthur.com/c...etail?Itemid=0

https://www.martinandmacarthur.com/c...etail?Itemid=0

https://www.martinandmacarthur.com/p...29-2024-detail

These look to be the highest quality, as well as the most expensive. They offer various mechanicals and even a moon phase, though I'm not going to drop $2k on a wooden watch so I'm limited to their quartz offerings.

So, anyone actually seen one of these in the flesh (er, wood)?

It's Koa wood that you're thinking of from Hawaii. Love it!

I know this isn't even close to what you have in mind, but they are lovely to look at: http://danevych.com/en/collection.html .

If you aren't nuts about the watches you've identified so far, this may be helpful to you: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/tag/watches-made-with-wood/ .

Here's a review of a WeWood watch: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/wewood-j...atch-review-2/ .

Here's another brand that may appeal to you: http://www.originalgrain.com/ .

All the best.

I have just bought a very nice wooden watch from Wilds. I gave it to one of my boy friends and he loves it very much. Just have a look at their website at https://wildswood.com
I am sure you will love it.

Neat to know about this, new to me. Sort of a discordant merging of the mechanical and organic. Exotic woodworking was never a specific hobby, but friends who work with these tell me some are very toxic - wonder if they took that into account with something you wear all the time.

I second the original grain idea.

I got one as a gift a couple of years back, I like it. It's cheap, it looks nice, and the girl who bought it for me still gets emotional when I wear it. (we broke up, still friends).

Buy a watch that you could wear everyday, and for a long time, without getting tired of it. A wood watch looks tacky in my book. For about $300-400, you could find a sporty, or dress watch. Hamilton, and Tissot would be my options. Good luck OP.

i have a wood watch, the only thing you have to be careful about is removing the links. because the watch is wood, the manufacturer like glued the pin inside the link so I was unable to remove them myself (i started breaking it and my pin removers) and I had to bring it to a shop to have them do it.

I've always wanted to try a wood watch. Because of this thread, I settled on a Jord watch. I bought the Hyde in ebony. Love the watch except I wish the hands and the indicies were brighter. Not sure why when you want a black/ebony watch that designers feel the need to make everything dark.

Anyways, the watch came in an entirely wood box with a drawer where you store the dessicant to pull moisture out of the watch. Jord also included a wood conditioner in a pen to maintain the wood material along with a couple of microfiber cloths. Very satisified with the watch. You can't even tell it's a wood watch unless you hold it and look at it closely.

In regards to the links, Jord uses pin and retainer sleeve system. Took me a couple of minutes to figure out how the watch band was put together. I was able to use the tools on hand to resize the band. Although one of the retainer sleeves got stretched and won't lock on to the pin anymore. I think I just need to compress it with some pliers to get it to grip the pin again.

I really like the wood watches they make at Grovemade, based out of Portland. All handmade. I had an iPhone case from there and got complaints almost daily about it. But there's only so much punishment a phone case like that can take...anyway, check them out:
