Just jb4'd my 335i

So after too close of a race with a stock evo 8 I've had enough and ordered a jb4 with a dci plus data cable. I was super excited when it arrived but when I saw the jb4 had missing pins I was so mad I was ready to go the post office and give the manager a massive wedgie for damaging my product. I emailed Terry and after annoying him with 15 emails I was able to comprehend that those "missing" pins are for when you add in water/meth. The PO manager avoided a nasty wedgie, I am a tall guy...
I woke up early so I can throw the jb4 and dci on, I called off work till 2, figured it'd give me time to put it on AND go for a spin.
I was mistaken.
My gf came over to help me because "Aah you dont spend time with me!!" and "You spend more time on the BMW forum than you do with me!!" and I figured I would get the best of both worlds. I could not for the life of me get the huge cable that runs under the cowl off, took me 40 minutes and bloody knuckles until I found out I was prodding the wrong clips
I finally got to the ecu and lord have mercy I was so lost a GPS couldn't find me. After not being able to get the connector out I realized I need to remove the slidey things first, but hooking up the actual jb4 was super easy.
When I put both connectors back on I went to start up the car
crankcrankcrankcrankcrank ooh there goes the check engine light
At this point I was sure I toasted my ecu in front of my girlfriend, not the highest moment of my life...
Then I remembered... the damn slidey things....
I disconnected the battery and locked all doors again and put the slidey things back on, which took an hour. I started the car again and boom there goes the gauge sweep! I was so excited I did a little dance where I ran around like a plane yelling in Russian. I also punched my girlfriend.
I looked at the phone, 3:39 p.m, 3 missed calls from work, oops...
I drove to work, I did have the SES light on but the car ran great, not a huge difference in performance but car was cold and I wanted the tune to break in first. My manager was not happy, I didn't care, I was. I drove to school today, car got to operating temp, set it to map 5 and punched it, my car started fishtailing on the road in 2nd and I discovered God. It was amazing. And hey the SES light went away, and no more annoying wastegate rattle
I was cleaning my room today and I discovered I forgot the data cable.....
tl;dr
Install cost my sanity and almost my job and relationship but the car rips like no other and that in my book is worth it.
ps
I thought I had rod knock so I took a vid and sent it to Terry, he told me those are injectors, dang those are loud.

I am stock aside from the jb4, I use map 5 since 93 octane, do you think I can put in around 3 gallons of e85?

He can always keep the JB4 for the safeties built in but yeah getting a MHD BEF is a lot better.

Don't listen to the guys ripn on the jb4 it is just as good as MHD with many more features MHD doesn't have. MHD is great also..... so now add the BEF and you'll have the best of both worlds!!

I'm genuinely not trying to be an ass but judging from your (to be honest, kinda scary) first post and this one especially, I would really suggest doing some more research on this car before going any further.

Yes the car itself is relatively cheap especially for the HP you can have, but maintenance on it isn't and repairs are even less so. Do yourself a big favor and read, read, read before spending any more money on performance parts. There's years of trial & error and research on these cars on here and other boards. For better or worse the N54 isn't an LSx or 5.0 engine, and if you aren't careful (like researching how to properly install a JB4, or from the sounds of it, how to properly flash MHD) then you could end up with a very expensive paperweight.

For example, if you're just trying to make some horsepower to beat your buddies Mustang between stoplights then a FMIC as your next mod won't help you much, and a chargepipe + BOV even less. Yeah maybe swapping out some restrictive factory piping on an old Subaru or in Forza would gain you +40hp but a chargepipe and BOV on the N54 won't do much more than give you a sturdier pipe and the hothatch-guy sound.

next time, i would probably look for some diy's first before you tackle the problem. It'll save you a lot of headaches and time in the future. the jb4 install manual on the burgertuning website is pretty detailed.

anyways just a word a advice...congrats on the jb4, it really wakes up the car and is probably one of the best bang for your buck mods.

Never played forza, shame I always wanted to. The reason I'm considering a charge pipe is so the plastic
oem one does not get damaged and cause a massive boost leak. The most difficult part of the install was dealing with stuff that won't budge but the hooking up part took 5 minutes

I read the diy but I was rushing to get to work and some stuff just was too vague for me but on the bright side o can do it in 20 minutes now if I had to. The car runs great, no misses, no check engine light. The injectors are loud so I decided to ask Terry if it sounded like a rod at all (it's kind of my paranoia) and he said it's just n54 injectors. Next step is probably a charge pipe because I really do not want it to bust on me. The car is meticulously maintained, oil every 3k.

Congrats on your JB4 install! Even the JB4 makes a huge difference coming from a bone stock 335.

Your post brought back good ol memories my first time installing the JB3 back in 2010! Of course over time I upgraded to the JB4 G5 and still use it on Map 5. Do yourself a favor and pair the JB4 with a back end flash, it makes even more of a difference.

I can regularly put 5 gallons of E85 without issue and you should be able too. But you're right, start small (3 gallons) and bump it up each time to make sure your car can handle it. Use Map 5 with E85.

Surprisingly my stock charge pipe never broke for 6+ years. I just felt like changing from diverter valves to a BOV one year. Just sayin.

It always takes forever to learn how to undo and unclip everything and put it back together the first time. With practice it gets much faster over time. Almost 9 years later, I can do it in 15 minutes flat now. No more excuses for being late to work and congrats again

in general all direct injection sounds loud compared to port injection. if it gets louder over time probably dirty vanos.
