Since you have a combox you should be able to update. The USB in your arm rest connects to the combox in the trunk. If you put the new files on a USB stick and insert it into the slot, the idrive menu will allow you to update the combox bluetooth software.
Enter your vin here to check https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html |

I suspect that the issue is that the OP doesn't have a USB socket in his centre armrest!
(I'm in the exact same position and have just bought the USB socket and cable which will allow me to retrofit SA 6FL to my car, and hopefully also allow me to update my Bluetooth firmware). |

When I did my 6FL retrofit this is the cable I used. https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-BMW-CIC...kAAOSwc2FaJKyR
It connects the combox to the OEM usb plug in the arm rest. In my car, the aux wiring ran to the back of the radio. I had to run new aux wiring to the trunk. Your car may already have that but check to be sure. |
