Brake Update
Hi
So I've now done there track days with 3 different setups in my 330i E90. Results: 1) Stock pads, stock discs - result = fade then massive vibration acter a few hard laps - vibration never went away 2) New yellowstuffs, new solid discs all round - result- no gade, but massive vibration after a few hard laps, vibration less pronounced over time but still very evident. 3) Same yellowstuffs, new drilled and grooved fronts only - result - no vibration - no fade, even after 10 laps smashing around Donnington There you have it |

So, you'll have to tell me which discs in particular you got! I had my car in last week and put on PFC pads up front (at that point i thought it was yellowstuff which was rubbish) but have been looking for drilled discs as well. You mentioned in my thread that an engineer was going along with you to install some ducting too. Did you have that done? Cheers |

Hi mate
Glad you spotted this thread ! I couldn't find the original. I didn't go with the engineer in the end, so no ducting. However I did smash hard on the brakes (wheels were black after) and no fade and no vibration! I used MTEC discs. |

Any idea why its made a difference? The drilled holes help heat escape more and prevent pad build up? I will take a look at MTEC then, they make lots of different types it looks like. Also looking at Zimmermann sport discs which are just drilled. About the same price. I'll feedback as well how i find them. Anymore track days coming up? |

If I were to choose between the MTEC and Zimms, I would go for the Zimms because not only was the price broadly similar but the coating on the Zimms is a proper protective coating compared the the MTEC which are simply powder coated/painted (even the face of the disc!). I found this out when a friend of mine bought a set for his E60 535D and ended up with the paint melting all over the pads, calipers and generally making a bit of a mess. Seemed a bit of a cheap move compared to the Zimms. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1459381 - Just in case thats any use to you... BTW I just noticed that https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ has 23% off right now. Considering they had better prices when I bought my discs and pads at 19% off, I'd probably jump all over the 23%!! Unfortunately straight after, I read some recent reviews of theirs and they aren't great so right now just hoping i receive the order. I did call them up and they said delivery would be one week as well. Just a bit cheeky that their websites all make them look as though they are UK based. |

My 335i had Mtec discs on when I bought it. They were bloody awful. Badly corroded, the centre housing bit was cracked and they vibrated really badly when pushed hard on pedal. I wouldn't recommend. Go OEM or Zimmerman for discs.
