335 brakes

I have a 325d but have the upgraded 335 front callipers. When changing over the front brakes I just reused my old slide pins but today I have noticed that the bottom 335 slide pin should be about 11mm longer.

I’ve had an issue recently when the pads weren’t releasing properly from the disc.

I’ve ordered the correct slide pins today (£34 for 2 :O).. do you mechanical geniuses think that those could be what’s caused my issue? I Have checked the pistons both rubber boots are good with no scrapes etc on piston either

What’s your thoughts?

Are you talking about the pins that are mounted on the carrier that push through the rubber gromets in the calipers?

Blimey BMW are cheeky as they are actually made by Ate I believe.

It may well be the cause of the issue but there are other things to look out for. Obviously the inboard pad is seated into the piston so if this wasn't moving correctly your issue would be piston related.

Outboard pad sits on the carrier so if that was not moving freely could cause issues. I would clean and sand all the parts where the pad sits so you know its not getting stuck on debris etc.

You bet they are. That’s with me knowing a guy in parts btw so should be more expensive. Luckily he’s cancelled the order and I bought the ones you sent me a link to

My outer pad doesn’t just sit it clips into the outer of the calliper. When I fully press the pedal in as opposed to gentle braking I get a clunking noise. I’m just wondering if the smaller slide pin isn’t givin the calliper the full motion it should be getting.

Once they arrive I’m gonna just take apart clean and reinstall everything

Just buy the correct pins, 335 brakes have a longer bottom & shorter top pin for a reason otherwise they would both be the same size

They were already ordered before I asked. Asked if they thought it would sort this particular issue but it didn’t thanks for the helpful input
