Newb Question On Buying

Hey Guys,
This is a newbie question... but am I correct to say, if a dealer doesn't have a specific car (color/model/interior/options) available at the dealership or in a dealership nearby, then they are going to have to order it from Europe and I'll have to wait 2 months to get it?

Still a little confused, as this will be my first car purchase (not including the car my parents got me when I was in high school).

And even if it's not available and I wait 2 months, I have to figure out all the financing or paying up front for it?

When would you put only a deposit?

thanks for helping the new guy out

Welcome to e90post! If you don't see the car you like on the lot, ordering it is the next step. It's roughly a two month period from ordering to delivery at the dealer. Once you place the order, the dealer may ask for deposit from $500-1,000. You can also use the 2-month period to shop around for the most competitive finance/lease rates. Good luck!

Interesting... so 0 down to order the car, but you would still have to haggle for the final pricing right when you order is that correct?

My situation is that, I'm looking to buy the car but need to wait for a CD account to mature (next month).
I know the customizations and options I want, should I go to the dealer now to see if they have it/go through the haggling, or wait until it matures?

Shop for car, negotiate a price, you might need to put down a small deposit, but almost every dealer will refund it if you cancel ( be sure and ask )I think in CA,they automatically do but get everything in writing before you order. They could also run a locate and might be able to get your car sooner.Since there is 3.9% financing on the 3 series right now, once you agree to purchase, fill out a credit app and have the dealer submit it to get the rate locked,it's good for 60 days from the end of the month.
