Placed order for 2007 330/335cic convertible
Just returned from one year deployment overseas in Iraq. I was with the U.S. Army as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot.
I was able to place an order (Sept 2005) thru the military overseas sales program (Pentagon Car Sales) for a 2007 330cic convertible, fully loaded with every option, steptronic auto, GPS navigation, sports package/suspension, leather, xenon lights, satelite radio, etc. etc. for around 47k (military discounted estimated 2007 price), price includes shipping and insurance cost, export/import taxes, delivery to California dealer of my choice, etc.. The whole works. If the price is higher than the estimated price, I have the option of cancelling my order or going ahead with the order with the newer price (but still discounted well below retail). The discount is pretty good especially with the California DMV use tax law scheduled to change June 2006 (12 month out of state current law is expected to go back to previous 90 day out of state), looks like I will not have to pay any sales tax (7%-8%) as well (car will be delivered after 90 days of purchase from out of state, thus no sales/use tax!!!!!!). With this military sales program, an order can be placed up to three years in advance as long as your stationed overseas with the military when you place the order. The word I received today from my sales rep in Europe was that the convertible will be a two piece retractable hardtop, but the 335 model may not come out yet, still being determined. If it does become the 335, then I'll be getting the 335 model. Info on the new models will be available very soon to include the new colors which is the only option I have left to select. I'll post more info as I receive it. Good-Luck everyone. |

2007 Convertible
I need a little clarification on your posting. Did you order a 325 convertible, with an option to upgrade to the 335 if it is available? Also, when did they tell you the vehicle will be ready for delivery...early 2007 or late 2006. Thanks, and as a retired military man I salute you for the service you have provided the country.

My order was for a 2007 330i convertible fully loaded. I still have to pick out the color and the dealer is telling me the car should be available this year 2006 (Sep-Nov). I have the option of the 335 if it comes out this year. My downpayment was $2,000. With this program, one can place an order up to three years out and still get the discount. The militray discount off retail is around 5K for the 3 and 5 series, then around 7k discount for the 6 and 7 series. Good Luck.

Thanks for the clarification. Please keep us posted when Pentagon Car Sales allows you to choose the color, and gives you a better idea of the delivery date. I hope that the hard-top convertible is really available later this year. I understand it may be introduced at the Paris Auto Show in September..

Just curious.
Isn't ED pricing better than the military pricing? (assuming you can negotiate a good discount). What is the 12 month to 3 month use tax law change? And will you be qualifying for 3 months by keeping the car in Europe for 3 months or more? |

The ED pricing isn't as good when you include all the costs, including delivery, insurnaces, import tax, etc. The military discount overall save afew thousand dollars more. With the new DMV law to change June 2006, once I finalize my order (time starts fro 3 month period), and the car then goes into production, then delivered to the U.S. (just after 3 months from signing the paperwork order), I meet the requirement exclusion and thus no sales tax (DMV calls it "USE" tax).
