Is it possible to detect reverse
Hello coding gurus
![]() I'm wondering if it's possible to detect when the car goes into reverse gear. I know for the Android app Torque you can setup custom PID, but not sure if the reverse gear is one of them sent to the OBD2 port. I know for some devices like Pearl Auto backup sensor, it uses an OBD2 adapter that connects to the wireless reversing sensor and connects to your smart device, and once you put the car into reverse, it switches to the app to show you the backup camera. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

what do you plan to do and with what? for simple on/off electrical signal, you could tie it to the reverse lights.
Or are you trying to actually tie it to an app on your phone? |

when you say android, i assume you mean an android din and not your phone?
probably very inefficient way of doing it but there must be a hardware tap somewhere to trigger, that can send a signal to android phone and using 3rd party plugins in tasker you could launch any app / camera you want. |

Tasker integration would be very welcome.
See my setup http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1502142 I have decided to go wired route using an Android box. I don't like in-dash Android units. For me, they are too low of a placement and restricted (software wise). So I'm planning to do a dash top mount (F30 style). And no, no way I'll go with an AVIN unit. Cutting the dash is a big no no ![]() What I was hoping for is Torque monitors that PID and logs it, then tasker monitors the log and reads the value. Hummm... this might still be slow. |
