Does anyone have the wands and things that I could borrow/rent? Would love to tackle this DIY next weekend if possible

Are you aware that part of the process is to hot-dip the manifold in a cleaning tank? I doubt that anyone has the tank and several gallons of cleaner to lend (or rent.) Have you looked at the TIS that describes the process?

Southdiesel you can do it with a large tub and a few gallons of Purple Power degreaser -- but it is still reportedly a huge pain and slower than you expect. Andrew Rodriguez has a system that does it under pressure in three hours, if you are close to Atlanta.

Someone reached out to me via private message that has tools for rent so I'm going that route for the wands and things but I'm close enough to Atlanta to take the intake to AARodriguez assuming our schedules line up. Thanks for your inputs

Curious what AARodriguez would charge for CBU cleaning of ports since you plan on going there anyway.
More power to you for doing it yourself. I did find it to be very messy and time consuming, but I'm new to this type of work!

I was thinking it may be a cool idea to make a group purchase for the tools for the job and if we had enough local guys willing to pitch in the cost would not be the high. We could have Carbon cleaning parties. hahaha. I am down in South GA about 3 hours south of ATL and I am a new owner of a 335d that I am pretty sure is in need of carbon cleaning.

If I were in the ATL area I wouldn't second guess having Andrew do the work. It will be done right and the mess stays at his shop.

I did the CBU cleaning recently myself and what a pain in the ass. I did send the intake plenum for Hot Tank, but I still had to scrape and scrape and scrape carbon off. Also, the swirl flaps are oftentimes hard caked with carbon and you will need to use a tool to carefully scrape the crap off. Additionally, blasting the ports was very nerve wracking for me (and I'm an experienced mechanic). I was extremely careful to ensure that the valve that I was blasting was closed (use a good borescope to verify). I saw posted on here recently that a car was taken to AARodriguez's shop because some num-nut got walnut shells in the cylinder and bent 2 rods! There's a reason to be careful right there. Also, make sure to empty your vacuum after blasting each port. I don't ever want to do this process again, but I know I'll have to in 50k miles...bad design by BMW, shame on them...
