Council Gritters
Hi All
The title of the thread is reffering to real gritters (not the cockney rhyming slang version) Have any of you been done by these buggers? Driving home from shops today, one was speeding down the middle of the road (didn't see the fecker until it was too late) I reckon he was doing 40 mph (in a 30) and given my speed, the salt rocks hit my car at around 70-80 mph, most of the rock salt came in my open window! and is all over the leather So annoyed now - as I have a nice selection of stone chips on the front bumper , I though about turning around and having a word with the driver but resisted! At the end of the day the job has to be done, but why 3pm (in +6c and sunshine) and it certainly didn't help the fact he was giving it some speed! |

They got me a couple of times so far this winter but both times at low speed. All depends what 'weapons' they have on board and the 'speed and angle' the deploy them to the damage inflicted on your car.
I am sure Peter G or Bumps can help out with the technical details on this.

Take it up with your local council, they're responsible for gritting local roads. Otherwise the Highways Agency.
Still, I appreciate how you feel, my last car was blighted with chips due to a gritter
