It does work. After I loaded mhd sport cooling, my oil temp would not go past 230 and typically bounce between 215 and 230, which was a huge upgrade vs. pre mhd.

The only thing I changed was the thermo and it dropped ten degrees minimum, it targets 220 to open the cooling circuit. It will hit 220 only in stop n go or extremely aggressive driving, valve opens and you can almost watch the oil temp drop. Car stays between 210 and 220 virtually 100% of the time. Even at extremely high speeds.

I also maintain a very clean cooling and oiling system, I'm a little obsessive. Use the liqui moly crankcase cleaner to help keep the varnish and carbon out.

Unless you are tracking, no real need for upgraded oil cooler.

I swear by it: https://www.bavauto.com/bmw-sg84006

Best 40 I have ever spent.

While the bolts in my differential may or may not be shearing, the oil thermostat I got from AD Engineering works. I brought it up as the one in the link looks just like it. 80 + mph, 103 degrees out, my oil temp is a cool 215 degrees.

Did the research a while back cant recall the details but the dimensions of the thermostat and the design are different vs. Stock.

There is a detailed thread out there from our Aussie counterparts that detail the operation. End of the day oil temps stop rising when it hits 220. Will check later to see if I can find it.

Wax is used for a water thermostat, not oil.

Ozzie they do look very much alike, I imagine they feature a similar design.

I have a dedicated FBO track car here. I've been using LiquiMoly 5W-40 for the last 3 oil changes. It is a good oil and it is WAY WAY better than the "donkey piss" from Mobil 1.

That being said, my next oil change will be with Motul race oil, only because I beat on the car hard at the track.
