HiFi Upgrade

Two years ago, I upgraded my '11 E90 Base System. So I have done quite a bit of homework regarding upgrades and getting it just right. I've also seen and read the "stickies" concerning wiring and different system layouts (but they seem to be for the E90, and I don't know if it applies to the E92) so that was great info if it's correct. But...

I just swapped my E90 for a '13 E92 335is w/HiFi system. I really wanted to find one with the H/K system, but due to a few factors (pressed for time, bank financing, price and availability) I had to settle for the HiFi. It's not bad, but I really would like to upgrade the system. Which brings me to my question:

I've been seeing people selling entire H/K systems (here on the Forum, eBay, etc...) and I found one that looks pretty good. It came out of a 2011 E93 and includes the Amp. It's 11 speakers (two subs w/enclosures, two door mids, two rear mids, one center channel mid, two door tweeters w/enclosures, and two rear tweeters). So my question is: would this be a simple drop in, plug & play solution for my car? I'm thinking that the only real issues I would have is that I'd need to get a new center channel enclosure (if they are different than the regular central air vent panel) and I don't think that I have rear tweeters so I'd need to accommodate for that as well. I've seen so many different variations of the H/K system that it's hard to tell what will work and what won't.

My OTHER question is: I know that the H/K systems are equalized so would I need to get some kind of sound processor?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You are really better off going aftermarket it will be a better sound
system and easier to install.

You can't do much with a logic 7 system they are closed box
and the wiring is different. Plus reprogramming the Head Unit for fiberoptic output and laying new lines cutting holes in the rear doors for 13 versus 10 speakers.

Good speakers and a DSP/amp will put the Logic 7 system to shame.

Suggest a Helix /match amp/dsp combo and one of the drop
in speaker kits from helix/match , Jehnert, Gladen etc..

There are three basic system that are pretty much repeated
through the 1 to 7 series, even the X series.

I don't have to mod too much to get the speakers to fit? Or are there a lot more options for direct replacement now? I know the MB Quart 200.3 system sounds really good (that's what I was using in the E90), but I didn't know if others had started making speakers to fit.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping you'd offer some advice

E92's are more limited because of thin doors.

I saw that in the stickies, but aside from the BSW, I thought that all of those needed some modification.

I think I"m gonna have to do a bit of traveling to get what I"m looking for. Options around here are a bit limited. I'd rather travel a few hours to find someone who is familiar with my car than stay here to let them "experiment" on my car. The system in my E90 came out pretty good, but it wasn't even CLOSE to decent when they installed it. They had no idea what they were doing with the MS-8 so I had to enlist you, kaigoss69 and taibani to help me better understand how to best tune the MS-8 on my own. When I took the car back to them to have the ignition power fixed, they couldn't believe that it was the same system they'd installed. That's what I"m looking for. I don't need a sub in the trunk, or 3000 watts. I just want replacement speakers and a good amp that will get loud enough to hear the music and be able to hear everything in the music, while not causing problems for the PDC or Bluetooth Phone system.

This is the build thread for my E90 Base Stereo system:

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1221750

The only issue i had with that system was while using the Bluetooth Phone system, I would get the "dreaded echo".

If I was doing an incremental upgrade, how would the stock HiFi speakers handle an amp upgrade? I know the woofers do much better with some power, but what about the rest of the speakers? Or would I be better served changing the speakers first? I will be upgrading everything eventually, but after looking at the UP 7BMW Amp that ctuna pointed out, I started thinking about it.

bimmertech was selling the 82dsp as a plug and play option
with stock speakers. It has less power per channel. It has been
replaced by the 86dsp I think.

I have an xd 600/6 the rear speakers are hooked up they haven't burned
at 100 watts but I have them tuned out mostly .

Nice thing about the bmw7 is it has good power for the under seats and doors and its plug and play with the stock
amp connector. Might be to much for stock speakers though.

I'm considering running the Quart QM200.3 3-way system again. I was very happy with the way it sounded in my E90 and it's fairly "drop-in" and then just run the factory rear speakers. The wattage on that UP 7BMW is fairly close to what it needs, but I'm not sure if I'm reading the specs correctly. I'm seeing 65Wx5ch AND 160Wx2ch? I wouldn't use the center channel. Would this work and am I reading the specs correctly?

My E90 was using the Alpine PDR-F50 which was pushing 85Wx4ch. That was driving only the QM200.3 and that seemed to be a very good match in terms of power to the speakers. The factory rears were running off of the MS-8 so they were only getting 20W/ch I believe which seemed to do just fine for rear fill.

Speakers are still up in the air, but I figure if I at least upgrade the amp, that'll hold me long enough to be able to really do homework on speakers and whatever else I may go with

I just installed the MB Quart 200.3 and the BMW7. Sounds so much better, also putting in some individual audios in the rear to complete the upgrade, as I did not want to do a rear delete.

I am not sure what other deals you might come across but the MQ Quart and BMW7 is not a bad upgrade for the price!

335is with hifi? That's weird, I think logic7/HK was standard even on the regular 335i coupes.

Yeah I thought the same thing, but when I started looking at 335is's two months ago, I found more often than not that they had the HiFi system. At least it's not the "Base Stereo" system

logic 7 was only standard in 07 and 07 I believe after
that is was pay for it option.

World Wide the ampless base system has been the norm.
