hi all, wandering wether you can help me, I got in my car this morning (2006 e90 330d pre lci auto) put my key in the slot, all lights came on as normal but when I applied my brake pedal to start it, it was rock solid and wouldn't start when pressing the start button. so now its parked up while I find out what is wrong!! any ideas????

Do you mean the engine does not crank or the brake pedal is rock hard so the start button just switches the ignition without cranking?
If it is a hard pedal just put more pressure on it. Move the seat forward if you need to. It only has to move a little to enable crank

The pedal is rock hard and the button just switches ignition on. Doesn't even attempt to crank. I've tried putting more pressure on with no luck. My bro in law is coming to have a look and is a heavier set dude so maybe he can try!

see if the brake lights come on. That's all that needs to happen for the car to know you've depressed the brake.

if they do and the car still doesn't crank, I'd suspect starter. You won't know until you ask the car.

If the pedal is literally rock hard then you might need to remove the footwell cover and fool the system by pulling the sensor further away from the steel pedal section.

Hard to explain but it is a magnetic hall sensor so once the metal object (pedal) moves out of range, the brake light switch is triggered and you should be able to crank if the pedal is literally immbolised.

After that, you need to determine if you have a vacuum leak in your booster after the engine switches off, or if the pedal has gone hard due to stroking the brake pedal repeatedly or something like your kids stamping on the brake pedal

I had it checked out and it was the starter! so had to tow it to the garage and have it reconditioned!! thanks all!!
