So whats the answer? Flash or Proceed?

Had some fun recently against an Evo X and a Stg2 STi... the Evo I had no problems with other than I would only creep away from it... not really leave it behind so to speak.

The STi on the other hand, it would jump 2-3 cars instantly in 3rd gear but as soon as it goes into 4th it can't pull anymore and I can't gain either

So whats the answer fellas? Dinan Flash or Proceed with Riss Racing catless downpipes?

Wow good luck explaining your car to the dealership when something happens to it.

You lose your turbo's warranty after getting downpipes. Not sure if your going to be able to pass emissions.
You will also void your warranty with procede or any other type of tuning chip.
Oh and if your tranny screws up, they'll blame it on the chip too.

Pretty much, you void all the warranty in terms of engine/tranny. People on e90post argue that you won't but I'm pretty sure you will. The dealership won't tell you up front, but when your car really does have problems they won't pay for it.

Trust me, even tho you guys say you can hide your mods, trust me. Dealerships are really smart, and the computer is a lot smarter than you think it is.

This depends if your SA is a dick. But how would downpipes void warranty? Your exhaust warranty, yes. It wont void the turbos though. Exhausts are cool, but once you start goin in with intakes and visible parts in the engine bay your asking for trouble. But who would bring the car in with mods anyway when having engine trouble?

Nah dude, didn't you see the guy on e90post, who said his turbo warranty was voided due to his downpipes?
Trust me, once the dealership puts the car on the lift, they can easily tell that your exhaust has been modded.
The mechanic will put a note down saying you have an after market exhaust, they will keep that on record if you ever come back in.

I was at the MTO renewing my sticker, and I asked about emmission. He said that if you have a new car, you don't have to get emmissions done for 5 years, and then after that point you gotta get it done every 2 years.

So iPod, according to that, you can run all the exhaust mods you want and not have to worry about emmissions until atleast 2012.

I say, bring on the downpipes!

I disagree on the dP, the performance gain is negligible and with the recent rash of weird turbo issues I'd leave it off.

Get the Dinan flash and do the Golf tee mod and see if you like it. You've still got warranty and it is safer.

IMOP the risk of the DP exceeds any gains that you get.

I am getting the Dinan flash and exhaust combo and so are other posters out west, we can add some clips if you want to hear it.

GL but keep in mind that with turbo cars non-warranty costs can be

Yes, it really depends on how dick the SA is! The SA from T&C tried to blame on my BBS CH for the tranny issue on my old E46! What a moron! He BS that because of the extra stress that came from the 18"..... no speech! and no more T&C service for me too! But even dealer on your side, BMW Canada is still an as*hole to deal with on big warranty issue.

Like the others said, safer just to go with an aggressive tune. That should do the trick.

+1 to that. They'll be more tunes in the future too.

Seems like everyone is more in line with "preserving warranty" than the actual gains...

Wouldn't the downpipes only "void" the exhaust portion of the warranty (even if I went with the dinan flash?).

Yeah I have the "golf-tee" mod and I love the burbling echo sound it makes when I'm in underground parking lots.

lets put it this way, if you concern about the warranty, for sure get the Dinan flash and you don't mind paying 2k for it. If you looking for more advance tune which play you can play around with the tunes, then you have few choices, SSTT, AA, Helix, JB, and Procede. You can get more detail on each one by doing search. And of course, there are few samples that ppl telling the piggyback voided their warranty, but if you look at how many people in this board running different piggyback and the % that got warranty voided are probably 1 to 500 maybe? And the rest are still running fine without single problem. I remember seeing post saying Dinan flash also blew up a turbo as well...so I think its depends on your luck on the car, whether she run good or not.

There is always going to be someone faster than you (whether they're driving a modded Evo, Sti, or an SR4).

Like a few others, I tend to play it safe, and will be going with the Dinan flash (and phase 2 when it's available). That's satisfactory for me at present, and I likely won't have the car in another year (M3? M5 .. ?).

I've spoken with a guy in Calgary who's got serious mods to his 335 (currently running latest Proceed map) and he has access to all the downpipes (he owns one of the more popular tuning shops here). He doesn't have DP's and said the performance gain isn't worth the trouble.

Actually downpipes give greater gains than any CAI, intercooler, exhaust, or any bolt on you can put on the car. For 600 bucks yer getting a 12-18 hp gain. Plus with a tune a little more. Alot more throttle response. All u do is save yer OEM cats and put em back on if you got a problem. Jus do it and have fun with yer car. After three years there all peices of shit anyway(cars).

Stage 2 STi will be tough to beat. Assuming he has intake, ex- manifold, dp no cat, free flow exhaust , fuel injectors, and a decent tune ecu, your friend should be running at least 1.1 - 1.4 bar (stable) , with a non reliable but fast tune 1.6 bar and up

I think with a dinan flash or any piggyback.. your car should be able to run. but to beat, not sure about that... maybe cuz my car is too slow for it
