Didn't read all helpful comments........ But I get that alot cause my USB from the jb4 is loose fitting in to my laptop. I ordered an extension USB cable off eBay 15' for $4. I didn't run it through the glove box do to removal pain on the ass for dealer visits.
Anyway....... No more failed com for me

1 ensure you run the USB exe file on the laptop and
2. I must be really dumb cause I have installed the software on 3 laptops and I still forget to turn the ignition ON when connecting. After a bit of head scratching I remember and all good. |

I had this happen to me yesterday after update to the newest interface. I set my interface to the correct com (7) and it kept saying failure. I was about to take off the cowling and check my USB connection, but after I restarted my laptop it worked fine.

Experienced a connection issue on Windows 7 via Parallels on macOS.
After plugging the JB4 into my computer with the car completely off, Windows installed the drivers for it. To fix this, I went into the "Devices and Printers" tab in Windows, right clicked the JB4 device (called "TTL232R" in my case), clicked Properties, clicked the "Change Settings" button, went to the "Port Settings" tab in the new window, clicked the "Advanced" button, selected "COM 1" for "COM Port Number" option, then saved everything. Everything worked fine for me following this and I was able to update my JB4's firmware per usual instructions. |
