Don't they have ticket lawyers over there? They have a million of them here. Around $60-$70 and they deal with it, usually have to pay "court fees" which ends up being about the cost of the ticket but no points.

no one HAS to go to traffic school
but the option is there if you want to avoid having a point on your driving record (which will raise your insurance rate)

it's the insurance rate increase that hurts more than the ticket itself
because it will stay on your record for years

personal story - i got a speeding ticket while honeymooning in Hawaii ......
Hawaii doesn't assign points for tickets anymore
so you might think that's a good thing.. nope
because Hawaii traffic violations don't have a point associated with it, Hawaii does not give the option of taking traffic school
so my CA DMV sees the violation and gives me a point on my CA driving record
which in turn made my auto insurance go up

had i known this is how it was going to turn out, i might have actually flown back to Hawaii and try to fight the ticket in court
at worst, i lose but i at least get another hawaii trip out of it

traffic ticket lawyers cost $200 and up for California
the $200 places are big outfits where each lawyer will handle dozens of tickets at once

no guarantee of result

WOW
I had a ticket once in Virginia and was worried about what happened to you. No one could answer me, so I ended up hiring a lawyer there and they took care of it for me while I was back in shitty CA.

Wow sucks, haven't used one in a few years but around here they were like $70 and they guarantee no points if you haven't had a ticket in like 1-2 years.
