Question about fuses -- seem to be LOTS of missing ones
I was wandering through my new-to-me '08 E92 coupe and decided to see why the seat belt pushers weren't working, so I checked the fuse box, sure enough, someone on the car's history had pulled the fuse. No big deal... I know that "feature" is a nuisance to most people.
But what DID concern me was that there are about 25 other fuses shown on the little card that are also not present. I can't tell exactly what they are for, but they have pictures like a gear, a shock, or what looks like a speedo next to a car (I thought cruise control... but that's been working fine -- maybe the dynamic distance cruise control??), etc. There is a module block not present that looks like it has a rectangular wiper (rear wipers?). I figure for some stuff, like the wiper module, would only be for another model -- specifically the wagon with a rear wiper. Where I can find a list of which fuses my car should have, or a decoder ring that I can figure that out from based on the symbols on that little card? I don't have a copy of the window sticker to know what options the car has from mfg, so if something isn't working, like my phone button, I'd like to know if maybe it's a fuse that's been pulled. Is this something a dealer can pull up from my VIN? *** UPDATE *** I found this post on another forum that directed me to a site where you put in the vin and it spits out all the options... roughly equivalent to the line items on the original sticker. Now I'm just looking for some way to figure out which fuses should be in there for the options on my car. One thing that also doesn't seem to be working are the mirrors folding out at speed above 25 mph. There is no line item in the equipment list for power fold mirrors, but the manual makes it sound like every car does it. I checked the Bentley's manual, and it just says something like fuse locations and configurations may change. Last edited by gde061; 11-07-2018 at 09:12 PM.. Reason: add link |

Fixing stuff is fun.

There are usually several empty spots in the fusebox for expansion or missing options. If everything works it's fine imho. BTW I have a sedan and didn't know about these seat belt pushers.

Yes when they break it's a 50$ part but it's pretty nifty to have them. |

I saw that video, and i was like, who in the 21st century still starches their shirts? LOL. With the fuse in, the driver side drops the belt, but the passenger side works about 80% of the time.
Somewhere on Youtube there was a fix involving drilling it out and adding some kind of set screw. The slides were a little vague, so I might look into it later, but for now I'm just pulling that fuse again. Has anyone tried using rare-earth magnets -- one set epoxied onto the arm catch, and the other riveted to the belts? |
