might just be heavily traveled by large vehicles with trailers and it keeps them from cutting it too short. seems stupid. can you imagine a drunk driver trying to navigate that?

I get what they were going for but that can't be that much, if at all, safer than having the cars stay on the same side of the road the entire time.
