This is going to sound very stupid but I just want to be sure
I’m going from the stock rims on my 328i to aftermarket rims. The aftermarket rims are wider than my current rims. Do I need to get new tires to match the width of the new rims or can I use my current tires? |

Wouldn’t the tire be matched to the width size (7.5)? I still haven’t decided on an aftermarket rim. I’m trying to figure out how tire and rim fitment works. If my tire fits 17x7.5 can I put a 20x7.5 rim on it? What about a 18x8? |

Wheel sizes are determined by diameter and width (other specs bring offset, lug pattern, and bore size). Tire sizes are identified by width (in millimeters), sidewall (as a percentage of the width), and diameter (in inches). You cannot fit a 17" tire on any rim that's not 17". Width is a limiting factor as well, but it's moot if the diameters are different. I suggest going to tirerack.com or something and learn about it.

This means the width is 225mm and the diameter is 17inches. I can only put a rim that has a width of 225mm and a diameter of 17inches on these tires. Am i correct? also, are most rims 225mm in width? I'm looking at rims and they only have the diameter in the specs, i don't see much of the width. Ty for the help |
