Engine Knocking 330d E92
Hi,
I have a 330D E92 LCI. All has been fine until a few days ago. The engine when idling at any temp cold/warm is completely fine, at low RPM on stand still or driving is fine and sounds fine. However when I accelerate above 3k RPM a loud knocking sound comes from the engine sounding like the bottom end. It is not throwing any smoke, the engine oil level is also in the green. What can this be? seeing as it only does it when above 3k RPM, it will not do it on idle or below 3k RPM. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated - I am planning on having it booked into a garage this weekend. Thanks |

Very difficult to diagnose remotely to be honest. You don’t say how many miles it’s done but these engines are more or less bullet proof. I’ve seen them with 200k miles sounding absolutely fine. I will say that in my experience when bottom ends are letting go they knock at all RPM’s and are worse when cold but I’m no expert so......
I hope when you get somebody to look at it everything is ok and it’s something silly. Good luck. |

I’d be amazed if the engine is letting go at 110k miles. Just doesn’t happen to my knowledge. My M57 has done 140k and runs like clockwork. I know yours will be the latter version but I think they’re as reliable.

Im wondering if its something else but it sounds as a knocking sound from the engine bay area. From my experience on other cars in the past aswell an engine will knock at all RPMs, this is very strange it will only knock at high RPM.
