Garage List
BMW e90 318d Msport driving at 1k-2k rpm

Hi All,

Just after some advice before I take my car to the mechanic.

My 2009 318d seems to be running at really low rpms from what I have ever noticed. Ill list the concerns I have below to make a possible diagnostics easier.

- driving in any gear is no more than 2k rpm, 6th gear @ 80mph drops to below 1.5krpm
- quiet hissing sound when driving and idle
- car feels sluggish at times and the drive somewhat feels unbalanced
- random shuddering sound coming from front right side of the car when driving around 60-70mph

i guess it could be 1 or the other reason for these issues, but im quite concerned about the rpms being way below from what Ive ever noticed before. Surely at about 80pm in 6th gear my car should be sitting around 2.5krpm being a 318

I also noticed on a 80 mile drive, the miles left for fuel went down and up a few time. Ive never seen this before on my car so this is what really alerted me.

If anyone can shed some light itll be much appreciated!

Thank you

fuel will rise and drop,,it reads your current driving style at the precise moment,,and for the other i aint got a clue.but the hissing could be a leak of air or vacuum.and sluggish would suggest vacuum leak or boost leak

Hissing noise could potentially be a leaking intercooler, may be worth looking through the front lower grille at the bottom where the intercooler is to see if it looks damaged?
