Subs suddenly seem a little quieter?

I have 2 DVC 12" Alpine type R 12s on a 2,000 watt amp. Usually they hit pretty hard, but just today I got in my car and started listening to music and it seemed like they weren't hitting as hard and weren't as loud in the steady bass notes or the "punchy" notes. They have done this before and eventually got back to normal, but Id like to know if theres an issue that needs to be fixed? Thanks!

No way for any one of us to know if and what issue you may be having, there's a myriad of possibilities.

Some things to check would be alternator and battery voltage. Wiring connections throughout the entire system. Is it the same songs that sometimes sound different? There's also our inherent perception as humans, we don't always hear the same things all of the time. This is usually due to hearing fatigue, like if you're listening first thing in the morning, or in the afternoon when your ears have been beaten to death by random daily noise...even our moods change how we hear things.

I would probably attribute this to your amp more than anything else. Speakers blow and get muddled or dead...amps pull away power. What amp do you have? Traditionally, amps treat the inability to deliver enough power two ways: Clipping out (ie. amp doesn't have enough so it under delivers) or they deliver attenuated power till it can deliver the required amount.

You may have a situation where your amp is doing the latter.

The amp could be overheating, dying, or just not getting enough juice from the battery/alternator.

If the volume you have it is fairly high, try and turn it down and see if the thump is proportionately back at that level. Or charge the battery overnight and see if it's different in the cold morning.

Has the weather gotten colder lately where you are? The cold makes speakers/subs a lot quieter since they stiffen up. You need to have some music going for a little on low and as your car heats up the speakers will warm up and sound normal again.

2000 watt amp that costs less than 200 dollars.
You get watt you pay for and you pay for watt you get.
It's cruel but its true.

Well the most obvious thing is a bad instrument cluster.
You could try re seating the connectors to it for a start.

Changing it can be tricky it a replacement needs to be virginzed
and coded to your car see the coding subforum.
Coded for our Vin number and the milage data needs to be blanked.
