E90 vs E92 Aftermarket Springs
OK suspension gurus, I have a question. It's prob been asked before, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I was running Eibach Pro Kit springs and Koni Str.T shocks on my 2011 E90 335i, so when I went to a 2013 335is, I found that this setup could be swapped over onto my 335is. I didnt reuse it but wile I was searching for a new setup, I found that H&R springs have different P/N's for every type. Are they really different springs or do they just have different P/N's? For instance, the '08 E90 328i uses 50490 Sport Springs while my '13 335is uses 50490-3 Sport Springs. Are they really different because all of the specs seem to be identical. Any help or answers on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

When I was researching suspension options for my car, I remember reading that the E92 springs will fit on an E90 but that the ride height would most likely be different. Maybe try looking at the BMW part numbers for stock springs in an online BMW parts catalog (e.g. realoem). I would think that if the BMW part numbers are different, then the springs are indeed different lengths and will give a different ride height.

The insane quantity of part number differences between BMW cars within the same line is ridiculous, including what options certain ones came equipped with. It's a really expensive way of building cars when they could be made more interchangeable without a loss of perceptable quality to the consumer. Regardless, they like to engineer and make very specific parts for every situation, so if there is a difference, however small it might be, between E90/E92 springs, I wouldn't be surprised. They are, after all, different. There will be a difference in weight, weight distribution and a coupe would be considered more "sporty" then the sedan, meaning they could have potentially sprung them differently.

If you look up the Eibach springs for all the different E90 & E92 models (with the exception of the XI), they all use the same springs. Koni also does the same, at least with their Str.T shocks. I found that out when I was trading my 2011 E90 335i for my 2013 335is and realized that the setup I needed was the setup I already had. I now wish I had taken the time to swap them out to see how different they would have been (ride quality, height and handling).
