BMW Individual Audio front Speakers Question
I know that the original set up with the BMW IA front speakers are run with active cross overs.
However, I am wondering do you need them if you have a JBL MS 8, which sets the cross overs, and an amp which has additional cross overs.... I would think you don't, but I am just double checking. Please advise...... |

No active systems made by BMW.
No real crossovers between the tweeters and 4inch doors either. They basicly have and inline capacitor for a crossover. If you want active you have to run another set of speaker wires. Maybe the B and O never discussed here but not even the Individual system has active. Active means separate channels for each speaker even the tweeters. Who invented this semi active term I seem to see now. Diamond Speakers was the first I saw using it. If you say the underseats are on a seperate channel well OK but it kind of muddys the waters BMW stereo types http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352586 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1266451970 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1260829447 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138949 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1209780605 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1209780865 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641323 http://bmwcoders.com/forum/3-er-8/bm...1-e92-e93-291/ http://technicpnp.com/menuDiagrams/d...e90_92_93.html http://www.musicarnw.com/page-2/ http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...3&d=1169133185 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...4&d=1278871872 Last edited by ctuna; 01-01-2019 at 09:50 PM.. |

The IA system does have a crossover in line with the highs and mids but it is not active as mentioned. If you want to run them on the ms8 you will need the crossover or run an additional wire for them and use 4 channels from the ms8 for the door speakers.

(2 speakers). All I would need to get is the special cross over boxes, which I can get at FCP for another $100.00. So, if I do that will I still need 4 channels or can I just run 2 like I am now....??? Didn't Technique run the BMW IA in his front doors and center channel with his JBL-MS 8? With the Dynavin/ JBL MS-8 set up, you really have to turn it up past 75%, in order to get decent sound. What I mean by that is you don't hear the mid base coming from the door speakers and the subs don't really engage until you push them When I did the sweeps, I had my amp basically turned off, and the HU's volume was turned all the way down. I just used -20db on the JBL MS-8. It just feels like the front stage needs something. Yes, it's clear and sounds amazing, but I shouldn't have to turn it up past 75% to get that either. I am thinking of buying 2 of the JBL 6004, which would give 8 channels. I already have a JBL 6002 running the subs. I agree with you on it's not the amount of Watts, it's the clarity & quality of the Watts you have & the space you are projecting into. That's why I'm looking at 60 Watts a channel vs 100 plus Watts a channel. I like the class D amp, and I like the amp has MOSFET. I've always been a JBL fan. When I worked back stage as a chef many-years ago at the palace & pone knob, 8/10 the Audio Equipment used was JBL. Right now the amps are only $112 each. |

The door speakers are not going to give you any mid bass. If I remember correctly, the JBL built 3 series that won the the national car audio finals had the under seat woofers running up to 250hz and the mids in the doors took the frequencies over 250hz.
