Wot u fink?
I'm putting this out there to the collective, I'm after opinions so fire away. I've got a E92 pre-lCI 335i in Monaco Blue with 130k km's which unfortunately has very bad sun damage on the paintwork of the roof and bonnet. Also has some scars over the boot lid where some f*&$kwit keyed it or similar. The car is a daily driver and lives in the street, I intend to keep it, I enjoy it, but would like it to have a better appearance than it currently does re the paint work. I'd expect to get the damaged areas repainted would be $3k+ and would just make the rest of the car look not up to scratch.
The question(s) is would having the roof/bonnet wrapped be a good alternative? Is it obvious it's been wrapped when you see it? How durable is it? What finish would be best, I'm thinking of likely black, but matte, gloss or satin? I'm not big on carbon look. I'd get the window trim done at the same time, maybe they should be a slight contrast if I get the roof/bonnet done. Anyway your thoughts are welcomed. Cheers, badmanners. |

vinyl wrap you can clearly see its wrap up close, has like a textured finish to it.
Also its quite fragile, so for a car that sit outside I wouldn't reccomend it at all... |

Mine car lives outside too
I wrapped my roof twice now Lasts about 18 months to 2 years Up close its obvious its wrapped and not painted Wrapping the car would be lots cheaper then painting, but as DrJ said above will only last a couple of years if an outdoor car |

Bite the bullet and paint it.
If you get a good shop to do it, they can blend in the tops of the guards etc. so it'll look good. Case in point - I had a front end bingle in my e30, and the bonnet and front guards were painted + the tops of the doors to blend it in... you really can't tell & it was done 5 years ago. For a lot of the past 5 years the car has lived outside. Cost me $1600, including some minor chassis straightening + panel aligning along with having it painted. |

Thanks to all who replied, you've definitely steered me away from wrapping as an alternative, I'll get all the maintenance issues out of the way then start getting some quotes for painting the damaged areas. 18 months to 2 years durability is just not worth it overall.
Cheers, badmanners. |
