Battery on the way out!
Over the last week or so I've had times when starting car for first time my clock resets. Guessing my battery maybe on its last legs.
I've read about Battery Registration and have an old Laptop with Inpa on but I believe if battery is of higher spec I need it coding? Noticed Halfords do Yuasa 12v Silver Battery HSB019 for £150 fully fitted. Would this include coding from them? Anyone used them? |

From what I've read you can only register a battery with the above so battery needs to be same spec as one installed. Coding required for bigger or smaller spec battery.

with even the largest 90 agm battery only costing £165ish inc postage from some bmw dealers not sure why you'd want to fit anything else for similar cost, halfords will not have a clue about registering the battery either. Check what you have now 70/80/90/if agm then just buy the same, if fitting the same will just need a reset so easier and no real coding going on as if changing battery type etc

I fitted a larger capacity Bosch battery which I bought off eBay last year. The seller? ECP!!!! Even with their usual discounts they couldn’t match the price on their own website lol. IIRC it was less than £100. I then registered it with my car using Carly and had no problems with it since.

So quick update on this. Managed to fire up me old laptop with Inpa on. Connects to the car fine but no Power Module shows up which seems to be where Battery Registering is done??

Update - New battery fitted, managed to purchase a Numax one with exact spec of my current BMW battery and exactly the same size.
Pretty easy to do but not much space and battery bloody heavy when trying to drop it in whilst holding all the leads and crap out of the way! Have had no luck registering the battery with my laptop. I have an old system with Cable Shack software on. Inpa works fine but appears to be no way of doing it on there. I have Tool32 but don't know what file to look for. Also has old version of Dis which ones by Virtual Machine, this seems to have connection problems now (it did use to work). So anyone out there registered a battery with any of the above? |

Update:
I downloaded BMWLogger free edition on to my laptop. Connected it using my CableShack cable and it seemed to connect fine. Clicked on Battery Registration option and it said was successful although I have no real idea what it did. Not sure the software is 100% compatible with 330d as when I did fault codes under DME came up with 5 or 6 but no descriptions of faults. I have emailed them about this just in case. |
