Drones
My MD has asked me to choose a drone to be used for surveying jobs with & has given me a budget of up to £1500.
I have done a, little research this evening & am thinking of a phantom four, maybe even a refurbished one. They seem to be easy enough for a, beginner but professional enough to do the job. Does anyone here have any experience with drones & any recommendations of what model to buy?

wow. Getting paid to fly a drone. Sounds pretty sweet
I take it you'll be using it. I don't know anything about them really but you should get something spectacular for that money. Just be careful if he's asking you to survey land near airports. They are restricted in so many places these days. Soon you'll only be able to fly them out at sea.

Now what happened at Gatwick is a bloody joke! They threw everything at that even the military and they still couldn't find out where it was being flown from. I'm sorry but in this day and age surely they could've found where the signal was coming from that was controlling the drone and then gone and shot the fucking idiots flying it. Alternatively surely it can't be that hard to shoot the bloody thing down. No, my guess is that is was red tape preventing anyone from shooting it down and / or tracing the signal.

Having said all that. Drones are pretty cool! A mate at work has got one - he designed and made it himself! Very nice bit of kit and rather impressive!

Having done further research the Mavic pro seems to be the one to go for, it's the replacement of the phantom four.

yeah UK law states that unless you are the military, it is illegal to shoot down any kind of aircraft, including a drone.
I wonder if a catapult would side-skirt that law. I've seen quite a bit of stuff on that drone. There are theories that the drone (which there don't seem to be an official pictures or video of) was an excuse for the airport to close. i.e. A computer f up meant no planes could fly and so they made up the drone story to cover their asses. Same thing happened at Birmingham airport. Unless you can see Gatwick in the background then a picture of a drone in the sky, could be from anywhere.
