Headlights 101

So I am needing at least a DS headlight, my PS was also not 100% prior to my crash, but it survived intact.

Pretty much as of right now I think I am down to needing to acquire a hood and some head lights.

OEM are ridiculous as I am sure most know. As are the junk yards.

Will I hate myself if I buy a $400 set of on line specials?

Any better sources to look for used/take offs.

Hopefully this weekend I am going to start putting my car back together, not gonna get to the lights just yet, but would like to get some on order.

I have a hard time pulling the trigger on a headlight that costs more than the temp replacement car I bought while the D is down!!!

It's a 2009 if that matters

Aftermarket are all junk optics. You can always retrofit.

Rockauto-dot-com. I replaced my headlight with a Hella. Just transfer the electronics. fits perfect.

The Hood is there as well. CAPA - $212

Are your damaged headlights complete trash or is it just the outer plastic lens covers that are botched? If the internals are working and you're the patient type, you can replace just the outer lenses. There's an outfit in the Czech Republic (BimmerJakes) that makes replacement lenses. They're still expensive at $230/pair, but far cheaper than than a brand new xenon assembly.

I will have to check if the DS one is functioning still. I know the outer shell is cracked, did not check if it actually worked (or if I did I forget) Pretty sure one of the tabs was broken off the back, but I can fix that.

Fairly certain the halo on the PS was not working prior to the accident. But also pretty sure I have read a few fixes for that.

You can get the outer assembly (minus all the bulbs) for maybe $550 from Rock Auto or Pelican. I did this and swapped all the bulbs.
