Shop for deletes in Illinois
My d is in for service today for the dreaded "200 miles to no start" message, related to an SCR issue. They already replaced the NOx sensors under the warranty extension, but the codes are still being thrown, so they say the SCR cat is dead, and needs to be replaced at a cost of $2700.
If I'm spending that kind of money, I'm thinking I should probably have the DPF/SCR/EGR, etc removed and tuned out. Anybody know a good shop in the Chicago suburbs that can do this, and how much they might charge? |

Found P&L Performance, they said it would be about $5500 for a full ABC delete, tune, and CBU cleaning. I think I might just have the part replaced and then start shopping for a new car.

Just get a tune for deleting the SCR, and cut out the SCR cat. You'll spend maybe 800, if that.
Or do the full shebang, VRSF down pipe, bimmertune EGR delete, gut the stock exhaust, DUDMD stage 2 tune and you're only out about $1100. Labor is easy. Do it yourself. P&L is notoriously expensive. |

Lemme know what you decide to do! I know a shop in Peoria whose a malone dealer. I also know a backyard mechanic who was willing to do the labor aspect. Was thinking about going with him. Maybe we can do a dual package
5.5k is waayyyyy too much. I'd do it for $4k if you are willing to throw money 😁 |

The SCR is being replaced. Dealer would want $2600 for CBU cleaning, which I'm coming pretty close to needing. Somehow it's doubled since the first time it was done under the extended warranty.
![]() Will keep looking for a cheaper shop, but seriously thinking about trading it once it's repaired. Assuming I decide to go the cleaning route, I'd still need to at a minimum spend another $800 for an EGR delete and tune to prevent it from happening again, correct? |

And yes, you will need to get rid of the EGR to prevent CBU again. |

Jesus, I'm looking at having my X5 fully deleted, and tuned stage 2 DUDMD, including all installation, and all the pipes for the X5(more expensive than 335) for 2k flat, 2.2k since I want the DOC catted downpipe. so for less than the dealer replacing an insanely expensive SCR, you'd have a fully deleted and MUCH more reliable car.

Fluid MotorUnion in Naperville will do it for $1400-1500. Haven't yet found a shop that's under $1k. If you guys know of one, post up.

Unfortunately don't know any shops in your area but in Texas there a few shops that will do it in the price range that I mentioned.

If I'm by myself, that's probably two days each way, plus two nights there, so 4 nights in a hotel + fuel + food would bring me right back up into the mid-teens.

For sure.. it isn't worth the drive.. but my point is that there are shops that will do it for way cheaper.. you just have to shop around and hopefully get lucky.. if you find a shop that does it for cheap you have to make sure you ask them how they do it, lots of shops will cut corners and do a half ass job, even the expensive ones. Also ask the shops if they are just cleaning the intake manifold or replacing it? some shop wont bother to clean it and they replace it with a new one.. totally unnecessary and it brings the price up, the intake manifold can be soaked with some sort of de-greaser and rinsed off.. it will look just like a new one.

Agreed, I'll keep looking. I get the impression that these guys do a pretty thorough job, here's one of their blog posts (about a gasser):
http://www.fluidmotorunion.com/deale...n-isnt-enough/ They do not replace the manifold, it's a soak/scrub process with degreaser. |
