Misfires and Flashing SES Light (HPFP?)
2008 335i FBO
87,XXX miles Last week when I started my car in the morning it was severely misfiring and the SES light started flashing. Spark plugs and coils are all fresh. This was completely random, the car was driving normally the day before with no issues. Im assuming my HPFP has finally failed. If this is the case, Im considering doing it DIY. However, it is undriveable so I cant take it to the shop to confirm. These are the codes i'm getting: -29CC Combustion misfires, several cylinders -29CD Combustion misfires, cylinder 1 -29CE Combustion misfires, cylinder 2 -29CF Combustion misfires, cylinder 3 -29D9 Misfire at low tank fill level -30BA Injectors 1,2,3 or DME, internal fault -2FDB Fuel high pressure nach Freigabe der Einspritzung (shadow) I was hoping someone could confirm my suspicion and I can get on with ordering the part. If not, I'm going to have the car towed to the shop and have my guy look at it. Thanks! Last edited by scug; 01-27-2019 at 06:56 PM.. |

The key here is likely the 30BA error. That's a DME internal error, often associated with MOSFET failure at least in early (MSD80) DMEs (which you likely have) but could reflect a bad ground.
No reason to assume HPFP has anything to do with your issues. That shadow code could have quite a few explanations and failing HPFP usually (or at least often) give you some warning (i.e. long cranks to get started). |

OP, you say you're FBO, which I assume means no cats, right? I ask because the problem being across all 3 cylinders on Bank 1 makes me think you have a clogged cat or O2 sensor issue. Figured I'd ask just in case.

I had those exact same codes, to the T, back in March 2018. I sense sarcasm, and yeah, it could be anything, but folks will learn that on this platform the vast majority of owners have the same exact major problems, over and over again. Odd things happen now and then where it is difficult to diagnose, but if it looks exactly like a common problem almost every N54 encounters, that's usually a good place to begin troubleshooting. |
