DIY: Bad Injector Port "Fix"

Hey guys, I hope that you're only coming here out of curiosity, and not because your injector rattled after either a bad seal, decoupler, or hold down bracket.

If you are one of the lucky few whose injector is unable to seal properly anymore i.e new seal blowing out in a couple of miles, causing a misfire, I may have a solution for you, that does not require a new head.

I have about 300 miles on stock boost, and about 60 miles on 17psi of boost. Another forum member that has tried this has around 500+ miles of driving on this fix. No guarantees it will work, but so far so good. Why not try.

I want to thank autobarn535 over at b*****fest and feuer, for their ideas on how to fix the port. This DIY is a modified version of autobarn535's over at https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=815450 in that you do not need a reamer to bore out the port.

You will need:

-Mallet: You will be hammering the injector in with a decent amount of force

-8mm socket, or anything that will fit onto the top middle of the injector.

-Super Glue. This will hold the sleeve onto the injector so the injector may be removed without the sleeve getting stuck into the port.

-Injector shipping sleeve/protector. These come with most new injectors. eBay refurb injectors sometimes ship with plastic sleeves that will not work.

-Dremel with cutoff disc. This will be used to trim the sleeve down to the correct length. A sleeve that is too long will still seal, but the injector will sit too high. The longer, is not necessarily the better. It needs to be short.

Onto the DIY. Its pretty simple. First picture is how the sleeve looks, when its not modified.

1) Start by cutting the sleeve on both ends and trim it down to about the length in picture 2. This is about the length we want so the injector will sit at the correct height when hammered down.

2) De-burr the sleeve and make it as smooth as you can. It'll naturally smoothen out more as the injector is hammered into the port.

3) Super glue the sleeve onto the injector. The sleeve will already be hard to put onto the injector, but by adding super glue, the sleeve will now be able to be removed with the injector, and shouldn't get stuck in the port. Not that it'll be a problem if it falls into the port. Just extract it with long nose pliers. There is no way the sleeve will ever go into the cylinder as it is bigger than the conical port.

4) With the sleeve now attached to the injector, slide the newly modified injector inside the port and take your 8mm deep socket or anything that will fit onto the middle of the injector in between the connector, and fuel fitting. Pic 3.

5) Hammer the injector in with your mallet with a decent amount of force. It's hard to explain the amount of force I used, but I used a plastic mallet and not a metal hammer.

6) Compare injector height with the next injector over. You will be looking at the tab on the bottom middle. Ideally you would want your modified injector around the same height as the next one over.

7) As soon as you are content with your work, you can now reinstall everything else normally, and take the car out for a drive!

I genuinely hope this never happens to any N54 owner, but if it does, then at least there is a possible fix that doesn't involve putting a new head.
