Cylinder 3 Misfire - Fuel Injector Advice & Help!

Hi all,

I'm new here. I have a 2007 BMW 335i with 70k ish miles on it.

I have had a misfire in cylinder 3, goes into limp mode and shudders a little on acceleration etc. the usual symptoms. Has a garage check it out, changed all spark plugs and coil packs and still happening so it's diagnosed as the injector.

Now my question is this, would it be ok to buy a new Index 12 Injector and replace the old one in cylinder 3, code it and job done regardless of what the other indexes are of the other injectors?

Would appreciate some advice here as I'm being told all sorts from different people and companies!

Thanks! 😁

That depends on the injector index you are replacing.

General consensus seems to be that you can not mix index 12s with older index on the same bank. So you would need to purchase at least three injectors.

So what I would do, is replace cylinders 1, 2 & 3 with index 12s, code them and that should be sufficient enough?

Yep,

Just remember injectors 4,5 and 6 are old and may fail in the future. Near future? Hard to say.

If you save your old working injectors, they can used as a backup in case you loose 4,5 or six. Must replace the seal and coupling before reusing.

Replacing the seal takes a special tool or procedure.

Probably better to budget for another three and watch for sales. Depends on your free time and reliance on the car.

Hi thanks for the help so far! Understood, however I was unaware there was a separate seal part?

I was aware of the coupling and have the part number for this but not for the seal, I'd assume these would come with the injector, especially if the company selling them has linked the coupling but not the me seal?

Yes, new injectors are usually supplied with the seals. Installed. Couplings are sold separately.

If you reuse one of your old injectors you will need a new seal.
