Downloading jb3 7/4 firmware
I am having a hard time finding the information on how to download the latest (7/4) jb3 firmware. I've e-mailed back and forth with Terry but is not going anywhere.
Terry is a really really nice guy but I don't think we're connecting good in communication - I've been asking how to or where to go to download this 7/4 firmware, but I still have not gotten the answer. So, instead of bugging him about it, I thought maybe someone would help me here. He told me to go to here: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8755, which I did. I clicked on the "JB3 7/4/10 alpha interface: 7/4 Alpha interface download" and then downloaded the zip file. That's how I got the 7/4 interface, BUT, not the 7/4 firmware. If someone knows how to download the 7/4 firmware, please advise me |

well his link is correct, at the bottom of his post there is an attached file. right click and save file to a folder of your choosing then go plug in you laptop and upload the HEX file.

I've tried this. But, after I save the file (say on to my desktop), I try to open the file, it won't let me ("window cannot open this file: RS232_070410.HEX).
Do I need to plug the jb3 cable? |

You definitely need to read the thread on how to update your JB3. You connect the wire and click the update firmware on the JB3 interface. It will ask you where the file is and just browse to the new HEX file.

I apologize. I read the instructions on that thread. I did not find any info about it there. Thank you for the instructions!

When you do the uploading do you use the BT tool cable and OBD II port, or do you plug directly in to the JB3?

Can you use the BT tool or can it only be done by connecting directly to the JB3?

The BT tool and the JB3 interface are completely different and independent from one another. In order to update the firmware on the JB3 you use the JB3 software to open the HEX file. You need to connect to the JB3 via the USB cable and in the menu options there is an upload firmware option. The JB3 files come in two packages 1) JB3 Software (Software to load firmware, datalog, etc.) 2) JB3 Firmware (The actual firmware that is run on the JB3 - requires the software to load) Hope that clears it up Mike |
