So irritated, hit shredded tire

Ok im going down 495, using bluetooth, taking to my girlfriend, and out of no where a shredded tire appears infront of me. Well there are cars on both sides of me so im forced to run over it, and i allow it to go under my car. Well it goes under but smacks the front of the bumper next to my driver side fog light. When it hits the bumper, it also hits the light causing the fog light warning light to turn on, and cruise control was turned off. When i get off my exit I see that there is a huge scuff mark where it hit and my yellow fog light is out. As soon as i get home, being thats its dark, I turned my mothers hummer around and backed it in the driveway and pulled my car up so the hoods were facing each other. I turned on her headlights and washed my car, especially the mark. Well after washing it, I found that its a there is a scratch about the size of a baseball, and the fog light plastic housing cover was just pushed outta place at the top. I could only change one fog light, so now i have mis matching foglight, a scratched bumper, and no idea what to do about getting the scratch out. Someone please give advice.

After just lowering my car a few years ago i parked it in the city came back to see the hood was scratched up by an suv backing into it.....

what to do? two choices take it like a man or cry about it.

same thing happened to me 3 weeks after I took delivery of my 2003 330. It set off my airbags, and took off part of my part of my bumper(I was going a little fast ;>)

Took 3 months and $1700 to get my brand new car fixed.

Now that I am awaiting redelivery of my 2006 330 (dropped it off in Vienna 3/2/06 still waiting for it), you can be sure I'm be watchiing out for shredded tires ...

The bumper doesn't look too bad, maybe you can compound that out. Can you feel the scratches with your fingernail? (Can't tell if that's primer, or the light reflection).

The fog light casing looks cracked though.

The fog light maybe just needs to be pushed back it at the top, but the scratch cant be caught with my nail, but there are to scratches that cant be fixed, but they arent noticeable. What type of compound should i sure?

If you have a PC, get some Poorboy's SSR 2.5, then followup with 1.0. You might need 3, but I doubt it. Thankfully, it's not that bad.

PM DavidN for the compounding and buffing advice, I'm no expert.

Call your insurance company and claim it.

Same thing happened to me on 495 in my TT except it was what appeared to be a bumper. Hit my grill and smashed through it, damaged my radiator, tore off part of my bumper then went around the driver side door taking a chunk of my rim out, dented my finder in three places and tore a few large dents into my driver side door...

Just claim it. It goes under comprehensive because with road hazards you are not considered at fault so your premium will not go up.

Another great reason for a clear bra. My wife has hit at list 5 different things like that (including a 4'X6' rubber floor mat flying through the air that had just got picked up by a semi) and every time with some scrubbing the marks all came off of the 3M film.
