Dinan S2 already installed, now what? (N55)
Hey everyone. I just picked up a 2011 LMB 335i xdrive sedan. It already has the Dinan S2 flash and the Dinan exhaust installed. Of course I'm already thinking what I want to do next for mods... coming from an E46 ZHP and pretty excited so far.
What would be my best option? I have a new baby at home, so don't want something real finicky (heard mixed things about jb4). I like that the Dinan is set it and forget it... Should I proceed with the S3 flash and get aftermarket intercooler and oil cooler (not dinan brand)? Or am I better off abandoning the Dinan flash and going for MHD? I value reliability quite a bit since this will be driven daily. Thanks in advance! |

Do you have to pay the ridiculous price for the Dinan stage 3 or is it already included with the stage 2? MHD is going to be way cheaper and make more power anyway. You also don't need an upgraded oil cooler despite what Dinan says. That's just horse crap. A good intercooler with MHD stage 1+ will be a big step up from what you have now. If you want to add a downpipe too then you can go stage 2+ which is a huge step up.

I agree. When you're ready to make the switch just install MHD. You can go stage 1 and "set it and forget it" If that is what you're interested in. There is no need to upgrade the oil cooler with the exception of if you plan to take it on a road course. Even then using the sport cooler option through MHD will probably be enough for the stock hardware.

You drive a bmw and you have a kid. The D3 isn't that expensive relative to owning the car, just get that and forget the rest. You'll have to put in time doing your research in getting the MHD up and running unless someone is doing it for you, otherwise you lose some resources upfront. For $400 the curve on stage 3 over stage 2 is worth it. Set it and forget it. No data log option to drive you nuts when you're hunting down why timings are pulled, ect

I added an AMS FMIC on my n54 with Dinan stage 2 and it made a very noticeable improvement. I was 100% happy with the power and never got bored with it. Smooth, consistent power that had next to zero lag.
