Interesting issue with my key...

I recently purchased a 2009 335i that only came with one key. I decided I would go to the dealer and have a spare made, so I went ahead and did that. I received the key from the dealer and the blade worked fine in the door but the key refused to start or unlock the car. They were of little help and simply said it may be an issue with the computer and that I can't return the key. I had a locksmith look at it after with no success. I recently had my mechanic look at it and he noticed something interesting. My car does not have comfort access, but the key I have that works, is a comfort access key. He tried playing around with the computer and deleting older keys from the system. He was not able to get the car to even recognize the key.

Curious if anyone has encountered anything similar or had any suggestions.

Thank you for reading!

Maybe to PO replaced the DME, CAS and cluster with used units and you have a vin mis-match. I am dealing with that on an E60 now. Recently I have dealt with many absolutely messed up cars from cheap POs.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. Purchased the car very cheap with little history from the PO. Will look in to this tomorrow and post an update.
