Just swapped in CIC, can I use the armrest USB as the glovebox one?

I just swapped my 2008 CCC IDrive nav unit for a 2009 CIC nav unit. So far I added #0909 to my VO and it works fine. But I have no NAV yet. I have noticed that the USB in my center console works for music as it should but keep reading that I cannot use it for updating firmware, etc. which is what I need to figure out now so I can get NAV working and find a way to get my unit to play DVD movies. Any advice? I have read for hours but am not sure what I need to do for my car. My CIC version appears to be .08 but I think I need to update that somehow to 13 correct?

Glovebox USB connects to the TCU/MULF/Combox. Glovebox USB connects to the CIC.

I don't follow. Where does the armrest USB come into the unit then? I connected the cables the same as they were for my CCC unit. My car (E93) never had a glovebox USB, just the arrest one. Did the CIC cars have armrest and glovebox USB?

Yes CIC cars have one USB connection from the glovebox that attaches directly, and the other from the console that attaches via a TCU or MULF unit.

Both of those connections work differently and serve different purposes.

OK, I understand now. I just have the one in the armrest so it must go to my MULF2 unit. Then I guess I need to get another one to go to my glovebox. I am also about to swap out my TCU/MULF2 for a combox. I just got a BN2000 combox and just waiting on the plug to install it.

I have two issues currently that I am unsure of.
(1) I left my original TCU/MULF2 in place and my phone showed up as already saved when I swapped in the new CIC unit. I can hear callers now but they cannot hear me. Is there a special coding to tell the CIC that I have an E93 with microphone in the steering column?
(2) I didn't have any audio when I swapped in the new CIC but I added a code to my VO and got sound to come on. The sound from the new CIC is great but I think I may have lost subs under my seats. Is there something I should do differently?
Thanks for the help you have already given and thanks in advance for any new advice you have. Next thing is to figure out how to get navigation working.

The microphone inputs must be wired to the combox.

See this guide:

I don't know what coding you did to enable audio, it you may have switched off audio via the MOST loop thereby disabling the amp and subwoofers.

Again see the above guide.

The microphone should already be wired as needed since I have not changed from my original TCU/MULF2 yet. I have added $6VA, $677 and got audio working. I out in an old bass CD and it sounds like I have the L7 working right. Plus I have the "L7 Surround" option in my audio menu. I just added $8TN as well. Not sure what $8TN is but it was recommended.

One more thing. I have a spare car so I have a spare armrest USB and cable. Can that be used for a "glovebox USB" connection? I understand I may have to trim the connector since it will have different fins on the outside.
