MHD Tablet and Mounts? What’s your setup?

Looking to buy a tablet for MHD as well as a mount/clip for it. Was looking on Amazon at the Samsung Tab A 8”, would this be a good choice? Also looking at the angled pro clip mounting system that angles the tablet towards the driver while still retaining view of the navigation system. Are there better options out there?

Thanks

I highly suggest using a 2013 google nexus 7 if you're trying to use a tablet for MHD

Interested aswell.

Does a solution exist to charge while using the otg cable ?

(I believe an android app exist to start the tablet when it's charging (ignition on), and to shutdown it when ignition off (aka not charging)

Okay the google nexus 7 tablet when rooted and flashed with a custom firmware which is quite easy to do. This has a feature called host most charging which allows you to use the tablet while charging it at the same time. This cannot be done with a amazon kindle or Samsung tablet. This way you don't have to bring the tablet inside to always charge it.

Is there walkthrough or instructions online on how to do this?

I use a Pro Clip right of center vent mount with a kindle for MHD. I opted for a Scosche XL magnet instead of a specific phone holder so I could switch between my phone or my tablet depending on what I need that day.

Yes, You can download http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/

You use that program to unlock the bootloader and root the tablet. After that is done you can download the other 2 files onto your pc/laptop , not your Nexus tablet

I have a little air vent magnet in the center vent. It holds my Amazon's fire 8 tablet just fine when I use it

Fire hd 8 with some vent magnetic mounts. Only use it when I’m data logging. Otherwise it sits in the glove box.

You can even get air vent magnetic wireless charging mounts. It can sit there permanently with the obd cable plugged in, if the device has wireless charging.

I heard you shouldn't leave your obd cable plugged in all the time. But I plan to get the mhd wireless dongle when it comes out and hopefully leave it plugged in.

it will throw a 2ded hard code if you leave it long enough with key off.

I have mine in right now and it only took 2 key cycles to throw it

I have an old samsung galaxy . It has a nice large screen. I use a magnetic mount that attaches in the cd-slot [non Idrive car] . when I'm using torque pro for some monitoring I can use bluetooth. I have some velcro for the ODB2 cable when using MHD.

I got this one. It doesn't fit snug into our cup holder. So, I wrapped the base in duct tape. Now it's fine.
